What he said :).
All of the pulleys on the Renault are floating pulleys, very much like the Ford Sigma and Duratec engines. Renault do say that a new bolt should be used but I doubt many do use a new bolt! OTOH loads have done over 4 years work on the old bolt :/.
I'd also go with an air leak and there are a few sources for it IMHO on the 172. The main areas I would look at would be the manifold gasket where it joins the upper to the lower part, the sensor seals on the side of the manifold and the throttle body.
Getting a can of carb cleaner and...
That is one thing I am considering. But the B14s use monotube technology which I am hoping will make the rear shocks last a little longer since it resolves one issue of twin tube dampers ; cooling.
Have you tried the various setups on track?
As said I shall be an occasional track user and my...
I take it the Eibachs are firmer than stock 172 items?
I shall be honest but I am quite surprised at how good the 172 is in stock form around the track! If I end up keeping the car and changing the suspension I am debating the following choices:
-Stock genuine RS 172 stuff
-Cooksports with...
No worries, I guess I think I have been there in the past with bargains, and in 90% of cases been stung, causing me to be a little too ruthless about cars these days! I could give examples but this would soon turn into an essay!
As for recommendations I fully agree. Maybe I am too picky about...
It seems @ljohny may have owned these wheels after doing some research. Here is what they were like on his.
The pics will come soon but I shall give some feedback. It is a little unfair to compare them to my Turinis since the fronts are bald on the edges but have 2mm in the centre and...
So far I have taken a leaf out of your book and left them as they are, in the Red/Orange with the CF effect centre caps!
I have yet to take it out for a drive so we shall see what they are like. I did however weigh 3 wheels with differing tyre combinations ; a stock 172 wheel, 172 Cup Turinis...
Agreed!
A friend of mine in the driving trade was saying that it shocks him just how much people tailgate. A few friends of mine do it, and a few still have yet to learn their lesson.
A good shout but not one to follow. An Audi TT 225 I saw before buying the Clio was described as 'mint' and was owner by the same guy for 2 years. If I told you it drove worse than my Mondeo at the time with 260k on the clock I would not be lying. The car knocked from pretty much every...
I may as well share my views :).
In most people's eyes I paid too much for my car (feel free to say either way). £1.5k for a 172. It had 69k, in great condition all round and alot of desirable extras including the Cup/V6 rear spoiler, Cup front splitter (OK, it's a Fabia item...), CF front...
That I figured :). I've not changed the fluid since I have bought the car, although I do have some Ford Super DOT 4 to try out...
Hmmmm, I have a track set of wheels now so I may be tempted to try the CLs. Bar the noise they seem to be just the ticket! I used to own a Triumpg Stag and a...
There is Youtube video which says otherwise ;). However, alot depends on the state of the mounts prior to removal. Anything new will feel amazing compared to knackered mounts.
I would like to go in a VibraT car to make my own mind up though if anyone is willing to show me near Leamington...
I went with Bosch pads on mine when I changed the brakes up front and I have to say that it does stop very well indeed. The pedal was towards the floor at Cadwell on the day but then again I was really pushing the car for a period of time, even with the rain! The brake fluid could probably do...
Beat me to it damnit.
One of the Carbon type pads sold by Kam Racing could also be considered. I'd also use Super DOT 4 brake fluid as a minimum. From Ford Super DOT 4 is cheap, but I have yet to put it into a car.
If the PS3s are like the Primacy 3s they will be useless when it snows since their tread pattern (which looks awfully similar on the PS3) are a block pattern and made for other things in mind. PS3s like most performance tyres are a summer tyre.
Never a truer word spoken. I have had budget...
IMO there are iffy compounds out of the M1144. Previously they used to last but they seem to vanish at the moment!
In your opinion what would you go with over the DS2500s? I understand that the DS3000s are a little too unforgiving in the cold (i.e they do not really work) for road use.
I have never heard that about Gaz but I have heard that secondhand about KWs oddly enough! However, I do really rate the KW stuff and would buy it again but cry as well!
I do respect your opinion seeing what you do etc :). However, in the Porsche 944 circles alot of the competitive cars on...
That is quite surprising and the first time I have heard that.
If you do not mind going into detail how do all of the 4 Clios compare to each other?
It was most likely detailed with sealers etc. in an attempt to keep the paint looking good for a bit longer than a few months.
Mine isn't too bad to drive with 230BHP but I suspect it has no LSD. I plan to fit a Quaife and see how it behaves.
As for shitters out there yes there are plenty that look great in the pics. This one was quite local to me and it was a little beyond my budget but not much pricier than alot of...
No worries.
If you wish to know about a bad omen, you can check out my Triumph Stag and Escort RS Turbo thread. They are old cars admittedly but both have been awkward in their different ways.
I'd like to say that the Escort is better now and the list certainly has grown smaller of what is an...
How long do you wish to keep the car for.
IME the cheap driveshafts tend to last the warranty period (which could be a year or 2 years). Where I have had driveshafts last me 200k on a model on a car (or 300k in the case of another car I know of (same model (Mondeo MkIII for anyone wondering))...
Maybe I am being ambitious here but from what I have seen the price of truly tidy 1*2s seems to be on the rise - not a load more but still a bit of a rise and I am not talking about the cars which are mint despite having a couple of dents, ripped interiors, iffy dephaser pulleys, kerbed wheels...
I am going to collect them tomorrow. But yes I basically hunted around for them.
Originally I was after a set of OZ F1s but IMO they look a little so so on the Phase 2 Clios, moreso than the Turbines! They also seem to command a premium and are not terribly light from what I understand...
I think the White actually works very well with a MkII Clio, better than I thought!
However they would probably be worth more in Silver! Choices eh? I reckon I'll probably go with either Anthracite/Grey or White.
If I end up keeping the wheels they may become a set of track wheels over the...
