That was quality, thanks!
Guessing he got tagged on the 1st lap hence the spin?
I could feel the frustration when the car in front kept walking away on the straights and coming back in through the corners...
Yeah it keeps it cheap and reliable! (We can do a full season on £5k easily, including all fuel, food, spares, race entries, etc.) Pretty sure they had more power (which is fine in the other series) as I couldn't catch them while slipstreaming and they kept a spare head gasket in the van (no...
Haha. We don't do any of that - never seen any of our registered drivers make deliberate contact, and we all want it to stay that way :)
Yeah exactly, they just backed me up so I had to lift out and it killed me on exit... with hindsight I should have left a gap on the way into the chicane...
Yeah, I was a bit. First race though, want to keep the car in one piece. Was a bit more 'forceful' in race 2 :)
The Mk3s are about 150kg heavier I think, but probably have another 40bhp. They're pretty much the same pace out of the corners but as you can see they really pull away when you're up...
Race 2:
Start - got away ok, then lost the back end through Goodwood (1:00), but managed to bring the gap back down at Church (1:20)
1:40 - sent it up the middle of a pack of cars and squeezed ahead at the chicane
5:30 - caught Jeremy up
5:50 - up the inside at Goodwood
6:25 - comes back...
Bit of a bump, but a vid from the races this weekend... action throughout including quite a few slidey bits.
Highlights are at:
First few mins - the start and getting mugged by nearly everyone on the first lap!
1:45 - went for a pass around the outside but got squeezed out at the last...
Not a word of it - that's a bloody brilliant video, could watch it all day!
How many different classes are there in that field by the way? It was like Need For Speed out there.
The guy you double-passed at 11:20 must have pooed himself, haha.
Yeah man, tracks always look totally different on videos! If you get the chance, it's well worth driving at Mallory IMO :)
Cheers dude.
I've not heard much since the whole online petition thing...
Had a good day at Mallory on Sunday just gone! Qualifying was rain-affected, the heavens opened towards the end which saw a couple of cars diving for the pits having done their quickest laps. Mine was quick enough for 3rd in class. However, I decided to stay out and play around with...
I know what you mean Swede, but personally I think it's what you make of it.
Even in a low powered car like the MX-5, you're doing about 98mph going into Gerrards, and the cornering speed (on track tyres with a decent setup) is ~82-85mph, so you're not completely flat out and you have to pick a...
Yeah, I guess there is always someone out there that knows more or something extra to what you do!
That's why wet track days are winners IMO, you can learn so much about so much so quickly...
Yeah, true - you need to drive it in the wet or have a good close look at the tarmac to find out I reckon!
Some really good stuff here, Page 56 onwards: http://www.racelogic.co.uk/_downloads/misc/Racelogic-ebook-advanced-circuit-driving.pdf
(I know you know this Harv - it's for others :))
Yeah, it's cheap, fun and fair - ideal club racing IMO. All the cars have the same Gaz shocks, Federal RSR-595 tyres (some of us have 2 sets, one with more tread, but most people just have one set), TD wheels, standard brakes (pads are free), power mods allowed are head skim and exhaust...
Cheers dude!
I had a look at my datalogger after quali, the first 75% was dry and the rest wet - 3rd was about 0.2-0.3s quicker than 4th in the wet, despite the extra gearchange. In the dry it's definitely 4th though.
Race 2...
Hello all,
Did a couple of races at Mallory this Sunday just gone. Qualified 3rd in class then it peed down so we had a wet Race 1, which was awesome fun! I managed to get a good start for a change and stayed ahead for a win.
Race 2 was pretty much dry (video to come), but again got a decent...
Oh definitely, trying to get anywhere near full pace after such little practice is tricky / bloody scary!
It's definitely not good value for money for the budget racer, but as you said it's pretty cool to watch.
Good stuff - car looks sweet! Don't totally rebuild this one eh, so you might drive it sometime this century :P
It's organised through the Westfield club, yeah...
Ah I didn't compete, just went for the 'track day'. Know Rob via the forum though (and he bought a GoPro from me) :)
I actually...
Thanks dude. Yeah that last corner is a funny one... In a car with fair power the late apex works as its the only way to get on the throttle early enough to benefit down the straight. In something with a bit less poke you may be better with an earlier apex and carrying more speed though, have a...
You still need to come along sometime. Next one is 12th July at Blyton if you fancy it...
Haha. Well it's almost 5 times the weight and 1/3rd the power, so probably not very well :p
Ever driven at Curborough?
To me - it is a small track, but anywhere you can thrash your car is good. And any...
Evening all,
Here's a couple of short vids from Curborough today.
First one is taking a fellow Westfield owner out:
And a shorter one:
For reference/info, top of 2nd gear is 75mph and top of 3rd is 107.
Hoping this is more interesting than my last vid which was...
