What’s written on your oil bottle and what does it mean.
This post may seem like going back to basics but I am constantly surprised by the amount of people who do not know or understand what is written on a bottle of oil and therefore no idea of what they are buying/using.
To be blunt...

The comma is ok, cheap and chearfull and not a true synthetic as suggested, with regular changes and normal road use its fine. However dont assume that using a lower quality oil (mineral) and changing it more often then a quality oil (synthetic) is better... it isnt.
If the mineral oil does...
For the engine either a 10w-40 semi or as a quality option a 5w-40 fully synthetic.
For the gearbox a good 75w-90 again semi or full synthetic.
plenty to peruse here http://www.opieoils.co.uk
Cheers
Guy.
Its persoanl choice, the car will be ok on a semi synthetic but if it is driven hard then a fully synthetic would be a better bet.
There will be no issues switching from one base stock to another.
Cheers
Guy.
5w-40 is ideal grade for the car, its not too thin at all. Infact you should find it listed in the handbook.
The Halfords own is not a true synthetic but a hydrocracked mineral oil, just moving to a genuine synthetic should yield an improvement.
Have a look at the Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL...
Couple of things you can try.
The noise from cold is poor circulation, try using a 5w-40 fully synthetic as it will get round the engine quicker on start up.
The drop in pressure is the oil dropping out of grade and thinning if you like, again try a 5w-40 full synthetic as they are much...
Well if we are talking about a UK climate, many new cars now use 0w or 5w but often you will see in a handbook a minimum spec oil to be sued, wich could be a 15w, a lot of people assume that this is the grade to be used, its not, its just the most basic grade that can be used.
Hope this...

I thought this would be of interest as It's probably the question I get asked the most. Shame the answer isn't simple though!
The basic benefits are as follows:
Extended oil drain periods
Better wear protection and therefore extended engine life
Most synthetics give better MPG
They...

Hi,
For the engine we recomend a good quality 5w-40 full synthetic all year round use, the semi synthetic is ok but really a cost option.
For the gearbox, a good 75w-90, again synthetic being the top option.
You will need 4.8ltr for the engine and I do not have the gearbox capacity...
