Ideal, I would stick with 5w-40 for the engine though if you are doing lots of track use. Dont know much about the Mintex fluid but I am sure its fine. We tend to recommend the Motul RBF600 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-454-motul-brake-fluids.aspx

We can recommend brake fluids and it's a bit simpler than with oils. A standard 172/182 etc uses a DOT4 brake fluid, so these are fine

For the engine a good 5w-40 synthetic, such as the Fuchs Titan Supersyn 5w-40 or the Motul 8100 Xcess 5w-40 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
For the gearbox have a look at the Fuchs Titan Gearsyn 75w-80...
At this time of year, it’s beneficial to use an oil that has good cold start flow properties as it will get to the parts of the engine that need it far more quickly when you turn the key.
The "w" number which means winter is the key here and the lower it is the better cold start performance...
The stock recommendation for the box is 75w-80 and for the brakes is DOT4.
Plenty to choose here

Basestock categories and descriptions
All oils are comprised of basestocks and additives. Basestocks make up the majority of the finished product and represent between 75-95%.
Not all basestocks are derived from petroleum, in fact the better quality ones are synthetics made in laboratories...
Motul 300V is a proper pao/ester synthetic but then again it's a RACE OIL so it's designed for the track.
The others you mention are all "cracked" oils but price will determine the percentage of "cracked" oil and dino oil in it.
We sell a number of proper synthetics, Silkolene Pro, Motul...
No argument but on your first scenario I would doubt you would notice anything at all in the period stated
Tracked cars you would get an enhanced level of protection as the oil will stay in grade longer but if changed frequently once again maybe not too much difference.
At the end of the...
The halfords stuff is not all that, it is built to a very low cost (this means poor additives and detergents etc). It is 100% mineral based so not a true synthetic.
For similar money you can get this decent 5w-40 synthetic from Motul already mentioned earlier in the thread...
SYNTHETIC?
What is it and what does it really mean?
The Oxford Dictionary says:
“made by synthesis; manufactured as opposed to produced naturally”
When it comes to oil we think of synthetics as the best that we can buy and that all synthetics are the same but, it’s not so simple...
At which temperature does an oil flow better?
There is no temperature where oil suddenly starts to flow better.
A 10W/40 for example will flow between -25C and 100C or more, but there is some difference in the rate of flow! (True viscosity at -25C is about 7000 Centistoke(cSt) units...
To kick off Opie Oils new 12 part series of interesting oil facts we thought that we would address the statement “My oil has turned to water!”
Let’s be objective and look at the actual figures involved here, emotional expressions such as ‘turned to water’ just will not do. Engineering is...

Nothing will happen.
Synthetics last longer and protect better while they are in there over the mineral based oils.
If you go semi synthetic change it on a more regular basis.
Cheers
Guy.
Yep, 5w-40 or 0w-40 full synthetic as the quality choice, as a real cost option you can use 10w-40 semi.
Everyone has their own opinon on brand and some are much better than others.
If you stick with a well known brand 5w-40 you cannot go wrong.
Cheers
Guy.
