Update 1/2: I've been building up to a big update the past week and a bit, so I'll need to catch up a bit!
First, I got the sump back from having a couple of M8 holes put in the end where it bolts to the bellhousing. There were some holes originally, but due to the bigger flywheel they had to...
I don't tbh! 😅
Never built one of those 'boxes before and I probably wouldn't have been able to do it without the manual - even though the pics were illegible it really helped! The boxes are made to be build / rebuilt as quickly and easily as possible, so even though it looks like a...
Update 2/2..
It's a nice change to just put something together, rather than make it entirely from scratch, and I enjoyed building the engine so much that I decided to rebuild the gearbox too!
Here's the first box full of bits.. thankfully I got a manual from Sadev, but as you'll see it wasn't...
Been a while since I updated this.. sorry!
Last week I did a load of little jobs like gearbox mounts, oil tank mounts, some straps for the fuel tank.. A bunch of stuff that I completely forgot to take pictures of, so this week I'll try and make up for it a bit.
I've stripped the car back to...
That's fair. If you can handle the squealing of track pads on the road (it drives me nuts but I do >15,000mi/year) then the CL pads have really good cold performance - especially compared to the DS2500/DS3000. I have been meaning to try DS1.11 as they're supposed to be very good at low temps...
If you only do a handful of track days a year then why not just use a separate set of pads & discs for that and keep standard pads for the road? I have OE pads & discs for the road and it's all the stopping power you need unless you're treating the roads like a track, which you shouldn't be...
If you could, that would be really helpful!
I did have a go at measuring the taper, but the holes on all of them seemed to be out of round at the bottom, which was weird. If you struggle to find anything to measure let me know and I'll just do my best with what I've got.
As per the title, really.. Does anyone know what the taper angle is? I'd measure but I don't have any to hand and don't want to buy one if it isn't going to work with my setup (not a Clio - a project).
ETA: 172 / 182
Happy new year everyone!
In the last update I mentioned the struts didn't fit the uprights.. I spent a bit of time messing around with various attempts to spread the strut brackets apart, and eventually the bodyshop next door loaned me their Porta Power which did the trick in about 20 mins...
I have a similar solution for the sweat vs spatter / arc burn problem in summer: chop the sleeves off an old denim jacket and slip them over your arms.
Added bonus is you have a sweet jacket for ultra white trash chic.
😂
I use a Murex TradesMIG 171.. bought it about 5 years ago (around £700 new) and it's bloody brilliant. Also got a Murex TransTIG AC/DC which is sweeeeeet.
Oh also getting showered with hotrocks doesn't get any easier with nice welders.. some days my arms are totally...
As promised, I have wishbone pics! I haven't got much time to type, so I'll keep it brief.
Starting off with a pile of bits..
And the finished jig..
I got the first one finished!
Then moving on to the nice CNC bits I showed the other day, the bearing housings I was missing have...
Things have been flying along this week.. here's an update from the last couple of days.
Yesterday I was working on the steering, first off getting the rack mounted. I'm using a Caterham LHD quick rack and some CNC clamps, bolted up to some folded brackets that allow some height adjustment to...
Today has been a good day! I ran around picking up all my CNC bits yesterday, so I have some serious eye candy to show.
First up is the adjustable top mount parts - more on these to follow in a few days, but they look cool!
On to the more serious item, my long awaited bellhousing is done! The...
This week I've got a few of the more difficult things out the way - first off was the fairy simple job of finishing up with the harness mounts.
Then moving on to the radiator and fuel tank, which is where things get a bit more tricky. Space is so tight between the pedals / column and the fuel...
Ugh my mum does this. It's been a good few years since I was last in a car with her, but she gets really wound up by people (who aren't even following that close) behind and will narrate the situation to herself. "OH, you're going to drive right on my bumper, are you? WELL I'M JUST GOING TO...
This was exactly my thought just as it happened, but leathering some kid at the side of the motorway just wasn't worth putting myself and a whole road full of other drivers at risk, and in hindsight I'm glad I didn't chase him down.
Nah, I don't brake-test people.. it's stupid and dangerous. I was in front of him for a minute or two, and apparently that was enough!
ETA: My "politely asking him what he was doing" = "WTF ARE YOU PLAYING AT?"
Yeah, somebody else suggested this! I'm going to look in to it and see if I can request the footage or something.. he shouldn't be hard to spot! I won't go through insurance, mind, but it'd be nice to hand over to the Police so they can pay him a visit.
I did initially follow him, but he was...
It will save you a lot of trouble!
This happened recently.. I was making my way home from work in heavy traffic on the motorway when someone pulled behind me in the RH-most lane, flashing constantly and very close to my bumper. I was in that lane for a reason and I can't stand that kind of...
That's an impressive list.. if you fancy adding to it then get in touch!
Trying to do a better job of updating this, so..
I've re-worked the door bars to give a bit more room for the driver's elbows than the conventional X allowed. Having had caged 205's in the past, the space inside is a...
A quick update!
I've spent a fair bit of time this week dealing with the tedious job of tidying up the original metalwork and sealing it to the frame - especially around the main hoop to seal off the engine bay. Lots of head scratching and careful trimming involved! This job has been made extra...
It'll have a simple folded aluminium dash, similar to the original, but otherwise a very sparse interior! No luxuries at all. 😅
Is that the guy who built it in the attic, then hoisted it down to the garage? If so that's an awesome build!
