Just checked some measurements from a set of 197 cams and with the VVT disengaged the inlet lobes are at 0mm lift but the exhaust lobes are at 1.87mm and 1.48mm. With 16 degress of advance (normal 172 dephaser) your inlet will be at 0.61mm and 0.48mm. 1mm of lift occurs at 24 degrees.
How do...
The problem I found with my turbo timer, is you can't lock the car with the key fob whilst the engines running. So whilst it might look cool jumping out your car whilst its still running, you look like a bell hanging around waiting for it to switch off so you can lock it :D
Best to just take it...
Sounds like a strange way of dealing with it, so is it some sort of RPM vs Throttle Position set up? ie 3000rpm = your limited to 50% throttle max and then above 5000+ rpm you can get WOT?
I had the same assumptions when I started mucking about with turbos that boost creep was the wastegate...
From personal experience it's a massive compromise using the OE ECU. If you want a solid reliable turbo conversion you can't do it half ar5ed, look at the best conversions around and you'll find everyone is using aftermarket management.
Thats good power for stock internals and fuel set up! Well done.
Of course your gonna get people calling it BS but thats on the basis of all the other LPT conversions that haven't got anywhere near that. Take mine for example, i only made 206bhp and even with the full forged lump it only made...
I've had loads of PMs from people who have had studs snapping, as Scotty says uprated mounts go along way to helping this but a flexi joint is the best idea. It also stops the exhaust bouncing around under each the car so much, anyone who's watched a clio 182 being launched will know what I mean...
Re: 172 Cup track toy!
I'm at Scoffs at the minute mate, and just had a look around it. Hats off to you buddy it's a really neat install and one of the best conversions I've seen :)
Re: Boosted BlackGold Project - F4rT content.
This was his setup two/three years ago, as I've mentioned he's evolved his set up into a 700+ reliable set up now.
Simon I'm pretty confident that at 400nm plus you'll get less than 2k mileage out of a gear box depending how you drive it. Mine...
Re: Boosted BlackGold Project - F4rT content.
From what I can remember he did it in a bid to reduce torque and give his JC5 gearbox an easier time on the strip. Obviously since then he's went with a VAG gearbox and has returned to the full 2 litre capacity
Re: Boosted BlackGold Project - F4rT content.
Think it was out of a 1.7 volvo lump, sure it reduced both the capacity and CR in one foul swoop. Whilst it might not seem the most logical choice it certainly worked. However he did suffer a failure in the form of a bent rod once he went beyond 400bhp.
Re: Boosted BlackGold Project - F4rT content.
It was on his drag five and worked pretty well, his philosophy was similar to Wilkys. If he had a piston/rod/block failure its a cheap fix. That was in his early days and hes moved on to higher BHP and a forged lump now.
Re: Boosted BlackGold Project - F4rT content.
Scoff's already ran 400bhp+ on standard internals, so I don't see what the big deal is. BUT he did use a different crank to lower the CR into the 7's and he ran a large turbo which as Chip says above goes along way to reducing the risks. The biggest...
Re: Boosted BlackGold Project - F4rT content.
Yeah I noticed the "if" after I posted, but lost my phone signal and couldn't edit it. No dramas.
Andy used the OE manifold, but the downpipe fouled the servo. In the yellow clio he used a pedal box, in the red one he mounted the servo in the...
Re: Boosted BlackGold Project - F4rT content.
Not wanting to rain on your parade mate, but I'm not sure that manifold will work in a Clio bay. If your willing to bin the ABS unit off you might be able to squeeze it in but it's certainly not going to be a straight forward fit and you'll need a...
TBH it was almost two years ago since I had this set up and all the problem I experienced were based around exhaust gas flow. The old F4R lump flows surprisingly well, I've not seen many others make 341bhp for 1 bar of boost. Who's your mate with the five? As I know most of the lads running f4r...
I honestly cant remeber what the temps were and I've deleted my old data logs, I think they were high 30's/low 40's but can't be 100% sure.
Those were the exact problems I was having with the log mani at 374bhp, I don't think the small 53mm turbine wheel used in the gt28rs and gt2871r helped...
Suprisingly I was only at BTM on Monday for a quick catch up with Fred. My Trophy is at the fabricators still (1 year on the 2nd May:(), when I get it back I need to pull then engine out as I have some custom pistons and one piece stainless vlaves to go in. I haven't decided 100% on what cams to...
This lad has done exactly what your asking so give him a PM

UPDATE
I Forgot to add the fuel setup so here goes
FUEL SYSTEM
I retro fitted a complete PH1 fuel line, sender unit and fuel rail set up. I used a 255LPH fuel pump and a 3 bar regulator along with a set of siemens 630cc injectors. This allowed me to run 374bhp at approx 75% duty cycle.
IF I...
The downpipe fouls the master cylinder on a clio. The reality is you'll need to drop your compression ratio as well, for the work involved you may as well use a garrett set up as the potential upgrades for the future will be a lot higher
As above, your probably using the OE ECU and there's a mapping issue. Whether its the scaling of the map sensor or just a general poor map it's hard to say. I still find it hard to believe people spend all this money on clios and fail to fit some form of basic data logging/monitor to keep an eye...
The reality is, it could be a number of things.
Is it a new kit?
Did ktec fit it or was it DIY?
Who mapped it?
What ECU you using?
What rated MAP sensor?
What power?
What boost? And what's controlling it?
