I have a set of 438 cams to be fitted in my 172 engine along with a set of ITB's, can anyone advise if factory timing is suitable for this set up and if not what should be used as an alternative?
Thanks
Do you happen to have any wiring info or pin outs for the PH1 ECU plug? im having to do the same shuffling about of wires that you have had to. Any tips or advice would be appreciated!
Not really a progress update as im waiting on parts to arrive but interesting all the same. The lad i bought the megane off assured me there was good history with the car with invoices for a full engine rebuild around 30k miles ago. I took this with a pinch of salt as he didnt have the history...
Another little update:
So I managed to get the vibratechnics mounts off the clio tonight and onto the megane engine and block tonight, I then set about getting the engine in and positioned roughly to see how much of the chassis rail needed manipulating.
After putting the engine in and out a...
So, popped the engine into the bay tonight to try and see how much of the chassis leg needs modifying so will get on with that. Annoyingly the vibratech mount from the clio fell into a load of pieces. So jigsaw puzzle of Megane spider mount and clio top half need putting together too.
so, everything is in limbo at the moment while i try get a plan together so after a bit of advice on a few things.
Driveshafts, anyone got a contact?
hydraulic clutch - any recommendations?
Update!
So tonight with the help of a couple mates, some beer and pizza the PH1 engine is out. First time taking an engine out of one of these and manage it in 3 hours, that will do me.
It did strike me half way through that I've torn apart a perfectly good track car and a perfectly good Megane...
Update:
So I was really keen to try and get the engine out tonight, luckily my unit is half a mile down the road from my work so I headed straight down there after a 9 hour day and began cracking on.
Some absolute melt of a human had used bent bolts on the turbo down pipe so that was a bit of...
The way I have had it explained to me is to use the clio loom, plus a couple of sensors on the clio ecu with either one piggy back or the FIM should work a treat
I had considered it, it seems there are a lot of options. i was going to go down the route of clio loom with clio ecu and omex 600 piggyback. This is the first one of these conversions ive ever done so any advice as to what works best would be a huge help. From what i understand using the megane...
@bozothenutter i honestly have no idea, i will have to ask him when i see him next. Neither of us have any ties to anywhere other than north east England lol
@bozothenutter I'm from Newcastle mate so no ties to the Netherlands, I had no idea of the meaning but did always wonder.... it was an old username my brother used for things and it stuck
Lack of technical updates from last night but it wasn't completely wasted. Managed to get an engine hoist off a friend so thats ready to go now, just need to find a stand! oh and washed the daily....
Plan is to have the engine out tonight so hopefully will have some sort of update this evening...
I'm in talks with him now, just read through the megane part of your build mate looks like an epic effort! Shame the photos don't work on it anymore but from what I could see it looks awesome
Good timing! Chris at EFI just got back to me.
He recommends using the clio ECU IF im happy with under 12psi (240ish bhp) which i am to be honest as for me its about reliability and power delivery not pub talk BHP figures.
At the same time though for future proofing a standalone management...
It was either him or RS tuning as they are pretty close to me, EFI seem to do more custom stuff so they are my preference!
ahh thanks mate! will have a read of yours ive read a few to get an idea of whats invloved
Plan is to collect an engine crane from a mates tonight, if im feeling keen i will try and have the engine out tonight :)
in the mean time i have emailed Motorsport electronics for some information on their ME221 ECU and also EFI parts to see what they can offer.
If anyone has any ECU advice...
Thanks mate, ive read your build thread and the quality of that is something else!
ive been round croft a lot now so feel pretty confident around there :)
Okay so ive decided to start a thread on my current project. mostly to keep a log of everything im doing but hopefully some of you will enjoy the read.
I have had the PH1 for a year now and enjoyed 8 track days in it so far, it mostly lives at croft as thats my local circuit however its...
if you have the time and the money invest in a set of pads, ds3000 or the rc5/6 will do! also would advise a set of 15s with some track rubber ad08/888s tend to be popular. not cheap but sometimes you cna find some second hand bargins which helps
Just out of interest what's to stop the new front section marrying up with the old rear? I bought the top spec r017 rear cage before all this kicked off with the hope of adding he front section. I really like the cage and given all the issues raised on here reg harness bar and hassle of cutting...
Car was mega at croft, brakes came together in the end, i was still locking up and wasnt able to lean on the brakes as heavily as id have liked but i think with the corner weighting done and some more practice without the ABS i will have it sorted.
Just the rear cage at the moment will be full before long. Its the safety devices rear cage with double X bars, harness bars, B pillar mounts and exhaust tunnel brace.
And suspension wise running BC coilovers with a stiffer spring set up than normal. Rear beam isn't strengthend no
They are mate yes and S9C which is a hard compound. Can be difficult to get temp into rears but once warm they were another level of grip and turn in feel at knockhil. I've got road wheels and tyres too....ad08r
Front suspension was all over the shop to be honest, different amounts of pre load on the springs and massivly unequal length on the front struts. So that's all equalled out and the brake rollers don't suggest there is anything wrong! Time up. I'll mess about on Monday.
Spoken with AK automotive and although they couldnt do the corner weighting before Monday (I'm not surprised my fault for leaving it late) they are there setting up a car on Monday so I have said I will have a chat with them about it. Hopefully it's dry, forecast said it should be and with my...
ive checked the lines are correct with a mates 172 cup which has the engine removed so you can clearly see the routing. i did think the caliper might be an issue so i have a spare to try if it comes to it.
