I notice a few of the lower end car YouTubers have latched onto these competitions. Obviously they think there is money to be made. Probably seems like a quick earner compared to the usual earnings model.
You seem to be able to do what you want in Escort world. The rally boys are building brand new cars from shells/panels made in china, with 100% new components, but putting them on old registrations.
I listened to the Car Throttle Podcast with Brewer on and thought he came across a lot better. No surprise though. Even he admitted that it's a bit of a caricature on Wheeler Dealers. Never really got into Car Throttle generally though I must say.
Given mine a partial suspension refresh, fitted some Cooksport springs and fitted the Speedlines:
Really happy with how it sits. It's stopped it looking like it's on tippy toes, but hopefully it should still ride ok, as the Cooksports are meant to be softer than H&Rs, which I suspect would be...
Thanks chaps. Got lucky with the wheels really, as they're pretty pricey new, so probably wouldn't have bought them otherwise.
Pleased though. As @Dr Jekyll has proved on his 182, RB and white seem to work well together, so definitely a bit of inspiration from there. Just got to keep the wheels...
Front done now too:
Fitted the Powerflex upper torque mount bush:
And back down on the deck with all four Speedlines on for the first time. Desperately needs a clean, but you get the idea:
Got a new caliper carrier for the right rear, as it had seized, and also need to sort...
Seen this online, totally mad project.
Actually saw a Liquid Yellow 182 when I was in Jeddah late last year. Obviously just a normal one though, rather than a RWD V8 one :ROFLMAO:
Welcome to the forum. It's not what most on here would do, but if you like it, who cares. A lot of people slate the Max Power era, but I do miss the creativity, so I can appreciate what you're doing. Just make sure you fit a big engine at some point
Two and four-wheel ran alongside each other from '94 - '96. Funny car really the 4x4. As you say, it wasn't that quick because of the drivetrain, but the chassis got very good reviews. Some even said that it handled better than the Cosworth. That wouldn't surprise me really, as it had a proper...
Yeah GTI was a 1.8. Wasn't really that quick really. I had a couple with a 2.0-litre Zetec in, as it was a really easy upgrade and made a reasonable difference, though still not as quick as the RS. Not that any of them are quick by modern standards!
On a P-plate, it could be an RS2000 or a GTI. Or just a lower model with the skirts of course. Had loads of those Escorts over the years. Still have a soft spot for them.
I'm not sure it's a British obsession. I think it matters among those that collect cars. For some, originality is everything, to the point that an unrestored car is worth more than a restored one. A car is only original once, and some people like to maintain that.
Some people just enjoy...
The overhaul has begun!
Managed to find a set of Cooksport springs for a good price, which turned up a couple of days ago. Seemed silly not to give it a bit of a drop if I was taking it apart anyway. The 200 Cup front shocks, new top mounts and new lower arms arrived from RPD earlier this week...
Really interesting write up that, interesting to hear the viewpoint of all the options. I suspected that the high boost would be much as you described, as it's a lot of power to put through a little car like the Clio. I have a feeling that my impression would be quite similar to yours, as the...
I'm probably not the best person to answer that, as I don't have much experience. My understanding is that the Group N timing gives a bit of a jump in torque though? That would probably appeal to me I think. If you can get the car to feel a bit more sprightly in the mid-range, it would give you...
I would do the cams and see how you feel. It's not that much money to try it (compared to forced induction anyway!), and you might think, "That's enough".
If you're still left wanting, you can then look at going further
I would 100% stay normally aspirated personally. Like you have talked about, cams and some inlet tweaks and job done. If you can get it to around 200bhp, that will be more than enough.
Once you go forced induction, I think you sort of lose the purpose of the car really. It stops being an R.S...
