Burpspeed Version 2: Race Car Build

Did I hear mention of a winter series? I can't see anything on their site. Noticed there was another "special" at Donnington in October.

    Yet another race car build...

I know lol. Should be interesting, looks like there is a decent amount of run off at the first chicane.

    Yet another race car build...

I am all set for Thruxton. I have created a minor electrical gremlin after getting water in the electric window switch - The electric window switch now starts the wipers! It sorts itself out after a few seconds/minutes. It doesn't seem to have effected anything else so I am planning to just...

Burpspeed Version 2: Race Car Build

Good to see you going well at the weekend. I can't do Mallory as we're away :( I might do Brands but the car might be in too many pieces. I am planning to do Oulton with you/French Trophy.

    Electrical problem

I've got a spare ecu/uch/key combo so I'll give that a try. Going to get rid of the std loom after Saturday's race anyway. Great timing lol.

    Electrical problem

When I press the electric window switch or turn on the intermittent wipers it triggers a fault were the wipers start and don't stop. There is also a lot of clicking coming from the UCH and the immobiliser light comes on solid red during the fault. This is on my 172 cup racing car. It still has...

Castle Combe May Bank Holiday Raceday

Hope that wasn't for the little nudge I saw at quarry lol. Wish I'd had my video camera as it was right in front of me.

Castle Combe May Bank Holiday Raceday

I actually heard some random passer by say that today while I was there lol.

    Another Clio 172 Cup Road/Track

I have the std bit of carpet just cut back. I have some of the nimbus stuff but I haven't got around to fitting it yet. I've never actually felt the coil pack to see if it was hot. I ran mine for months without mapping and Paul at RS tuning reckoned it had trimmed itself to almost the correct...

    Another Clio 172 Cup Road/Track

I had an RS2 on the race car until this year. It was hesitant at low revs before I had it mapped. The VVT normally disengages about 6500 rpm, but with the RS2 it is best to keep it engaged all the way to the limiter. I never had any problems with the coil pack or heat soak.

    Piper cams kit

I'd be interested to know this also.

thinking of selling the track car..thoughts?

This is the least hassle option that won't see you selling to some who will break it for parts.

These pistons look pretty much done for , or ??

Maybe I'm pikey but I'd just smooth off any sharp edges and reuse, non of that looks too bad to me.

Replacing a UCH: What is needed?

Yes. I have spare UCH/ECU/key for the race car - I just swap them over and it is good to go.

    Ball joint, fitting plastic bit

I can't see it being a big issue. But while they're still new it'd only take you 30 minutes to fit the washer thing.

    Kenny's Kup

They a are very light. I think the ones I have from Hal are about 6 kg each.

    Gen90 ecu

    RS Tuning can too.

    Yet another race car build...

They sure are :) It is a tight fit with the angle the ktec bodies come up at, I'll need to trim a bit of the inner bonnet skin away. Yes it will be good to get out there. The circuit is scarily fast lol.

    Looks nice and neat James.

    Yet another race car build...

I would have but we're away lol. It is nice and close too. We're camping though so if the weather looks crap I'll come and watch.

Replacing a UCH: What is needed?

I think there is also a clip that holds it to the big wiring plug in the bulk head.

    Yet another race car build...

I've entered Thruxton on the 1st of June. I started to fit my bodies and new loom. I got this far by early May... and realised there was no way I would be able to get it ready in time. Seeing as I was getting married on the 11th and had some stuff to prepare before hand, the wife was going...

Reason for smoothing edges on a piston?

Trying to reduce hot spots maybe? Looks a bit excessive.
  24. mark123

Replacing a UCH: What is needed?

You will need to use the new uch, ecu and key fobs but apart from that it is just plug in and off you go. The immobiliser is part of the ecu/uch.

    Small hole on cam cover

I used a bit of sealant like you were thinking, some people stick a self tapper in it.

From a cambelt perspective they're the same

    Cam timing.

There is a TDC mark on the flywheel that you can see and the notch for the key (that isn't there) on the crank should be between two particular lines in the casting. The Renault pdf has it all in. PM me your e-mail if you want a copy.

    Cam locking tool

The Renault pdf going around also says you don't need to undo the cam pulleys to just do the belt. A Renault mech I know said he didn't undo the cam pulleys when changing the 1*2 belts. I've done it this way with no problems.
