Sure it's not the thermostat housing cracked above the gearbox, I used to do about 5 a week! Usually people continue to drive them with no water and then toast the head gasket
The genuine items are a bargain too!
I moved from 197 non cup to 200cup all round and it's extremely stiff for a road car, I sometimes wonder if I would have been better going for 197 cup or non cup setup instead.
Unplug the 3 multi plugs from the UCH and leave it for 5 mins and re insert, see if it temporarily fixes it, usually that's a sign the UCH is starting to play up.
its behind the glove box, pop your head in the foot well and look up behind the glove box and you should be able to see them
cheap ones are a false economy. i nearly loose a finger every time i try and remove a set so id be double raging if i nearly lost a finger then couldn't see in the rain
Tensioner will most likely have failed. I would get it sorted ASAP as if it takes the aux belt out there is a high chance it will wrap its self round the crank pulley and jump the timing belt taking the engine with it, and engines are getting expensive!
A lot of people say they all do it, but mine never when they were new. My current 197 had it, I threw coils and plugs at it with little to no improvement.
Fitted one of those machines alloy map sensor brackets that hold it in tight and it was like a new car!!
Still had the occasional stutter...
yeah they never do show as an import for some reason, i dont know the ins and outs. But the alarms were fitted at the UK import centre when renault brought them into the country so ones without are always imported by the car supermarket (unless its been removed of course)
does it have an alarm? (sensors on the pillars and red LED on the gearstick surround), Locking wheel nuts and window etching? If not its probably an import, loads of them were
Low mileage 1.6 16v k4m is a straight swap as they are virtually identical. Or a 2.0 f4r but engines are getting pricey unless you go for one of the 140hp variants from the laguna
im on my 4th mk3 RS, every time i get rid of one i say NO MORE, absolute money pits. My current 197 has almost bankrupt me and I'm in to deep to get out so im putting up with it, one the right day on the right road its unbeatable, to live with its a nightmare.
Its been too cold on my days off to work on any of the cars, i did go out the other day to do some work but was met with this and quicky thought, naaaaa
few days later, its a bit milder and a few deliveries had arrived!!!
Sits quite well, hopefully it will settle a little more at the...
Transmech clutches are garbage that's probably part of the problem, your right that the bite point is high on them but not right at the top of the pedal travel as your experiencing.
My mrs has a diesel mk5 clio and the lane assist detects puddles in the middle of the road (where the grooves are from years of traffic passing on the same spot) as a white line and throws the car at the kerb. It stays deactivated now! properly dangerous!
The short answer is, the DCI is massively more economical but costs a lot more to fix when they go wrong, effectively writes the car off when/if it fails. - But it may go for 10 years and 100k without failing! but they are getting old now.
1.4 16v will probably do 40-45mpg in comparison to...
you have already hit the nail on the head, engine swap is the only real solution and its not worth while when you can just buy a 197 which is a lot more than just a more powerful engine, the chassis setup is night and day.
You would have been better buying the 1.2 turbo if you want tuning...
I use brembo HC discs, Mintex 1144s and from cold in terms of a road pad they are absolutely fine, and with a bit of heat in them they are fantastic!
Ive never done any track days on them but for fast road work they are brilliant.
Surely the whole point of a group buy is going to a supplier and requesting a discount on a bulk order, and not a manufacturer giving a huge discount on orders for a single brand? Sounds fishy, but I don't use social media so who knows!!
