a quick google suggests that I'm neither right or wrong lol
Apparently it's the insurers who want a new MOT, but not all insurers, some will accept the original MOT, best if OP checks with his insurance company!
If the car needs a VIC check, then it will also need a fresh MOT once the check has been carried out.
If the car is seen to need a check (usually after a Cat C or insurance claim) then that takes effect immediately and is not deemed roadworthy until the check and MOT have been completed.

I've done it on every one I've changed without problem.
3 times backwards, 3 times forwards.
I think it may even have been Fred or Mick that suggested it in the first place.
I think that's the megane pulley.
iirc it's an updated design as its not unheard of for the old crank pulleys to slip in use and put the timing out, the key stops that.
Your old one looks well hammered!
That's me miss-reading the first post and causing chaos!
If you know the file path to the Ubuntu shared folder can't you just map a network drive directly to it in windows?
Sometimes on my home network (Win xp pc, win 8 laptop, win 8 tablet, win xp laptop, nokia windows phone) my pc is...
you want to sort that terminal on the back of your alternator.
The heatshrink has split.
mine did that, then the cable started to corrode and fell out of the ring terminal lol
power steering pump would be my guess.
Started one up the other day after it had all of the fluid drained out of it, it screamed like a whore for 10 mins while we were filling it up with fresh fluid
The locals (herne bay/whitstable) try and do an informal group do once a month, with the odd repair weekend together, theres usually 7-8 of us depending on work schedules
The keyway on the crank itself usually points to around the 1'o clock position.
Although on the flywheel/ bellhousing there is a small inspection window to confirm that its correct
Yea, hence post above about wrapping it in rag and tapping with a chisel to crack it off..
The markings are there as the same pulley is used on the megane, but that one uses a woodruff key
Get the crank locked up, then spin the camshafts to time.
The slot should be just below centre (they're not centred on the camshafts)
The reason for spinning the pulleys backwards with the belt on (but the pulleys slack and cams/crank locked) is to neutralise any tension in the belt and even it...
^^ what Dan said.
Also, when I did mine, I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere, but the crank pulley is held on by bolt tension alone.
When you come to loosen it off, I wrapped it in old rag (to avoid damaging the teeth), and gently tapped it round with a hammer and flat edge plasterers chisel...
gearbox earth strap's my guess
Alternator failing would throw up a light before the battery got low enough to kill it. Mine ran (like s**t, but it ran) on 6v for about 3 miles when my alternator lead came unattached
lol, I haven't bothered going that indepth yet due to the car being broken, again.
At the moment its mounted to the passenger headrest post using the official GoPro handlebar bike mount with the fat rubber damper and a couple of 90' arms.
The wheels aren't 100% dreadful, but get a set of standard rear lights on it, and lower it.
looks like it's on stilts at the front.
like the colour though
not frustrated so much as bored tbh.
I only really noticed the defence thing after taking an absolute beasting on one of the vanguard strikes, it just seemed like one of the other 2 had to revive me after every hit, but they were taking tons of abuse and kept going.
Then I found the inspect...
