From what I've worked out (or tried to), the only thing it could affect is the caster if they're not lined up perfect. Any upsets to camber/toe can be brought back into alignment. Could affect roll centres too, but I can't see a mil or two causing that much of an issue if the car is lowered and...
Aye, forgot about the slotted holes you get in other coilies actually. Meh, still tempted to try it [emoji23] it's something different. Still have my old subframe if it goes tits too.
I'm not sure, I just stuck to doing open pit lanes last year. @CallyTeee done a few iirc though.
I can't see any dates for the OPLs on knockhill's website yet, the whole trackday bit is just empty! Only the hot hatch days they have up.
There's a hot hatch trackday on the 24th of this month. They were £55 if you prebooked last year. Not sure about this year, knockhill's website doesn't seem to have any track prices yet!
Only thing you 'need' is a tow eye and a helmet. I'd recommend making sure your brakes are all up to...
Welcome mate! Lots of info available on here for common faults and such. There's a buying guide somewhere as well I think.
We're having a meet at the end of this month if you fancy coming along!
In theory yeah it would be easier to just buy a subframe, but I've not found any close by in ages and don't imagine anyone would post one. And also the fact this would be a nearly free modification lol.
Need to look into it a bit more but it doesn't sound too difficult to do so long as I'm...
In fact, before I go about painting the subframe, I'm considering getting the wishbone mounts rewelded and drilled further out to increase track width/camber. Basically to what a cup subframe would be.
Has anyone actually done this before? I've seen it talked about but nothing more than that.
Not much to update. I gave the subframe a going over with a wire brush to remove some of the rust so it looks a bit better once painted. Will probably still Hammerite it though to save any hassle.
Will give that a lick of paint in the next couple of days if I get time, along with the...
How you finding it?
There's a lot of small things like that missing in oxygen OS. Annoying but you kinda get used to it. If they ever get the fingerprint scanner and laser focus thing working on cyanogen I'll be moving back to that.
The pistons will all be in different positions so would be hard to tell unless you spun the crank and one rose up noticeably less than the others. Would doubt it would be that noticeable though as if had bent a rod that much I'd imagine the rod would be hitting the side of the cylinder bore on...
Have you tried compression testing it? If it has bent a rod surely one cylinder will be showing lower compression than the rest as it'll still move the same distance but further down the bore.
Another thing to check though, are the injectors all coded correctly? If they've been removed...
I'd say it sounds like the immobiliser is the problem. That usually lets it crank but wont fire. What's the red light on the dash doing when you try and start it?
Could also be the battery going by those low supply voltage faults. I'm sure these cars love to throw all sorts of issues if the...
Not for long though :( this will be scrap once everything is swapped over!
Yeah, that's the plan anyway. Avoiding powdercoating anything though because if I do one thing I'll want loads of bits done. Cans of paint are cheaper [emoji23]
Didn't even think about that! Didn't have a plank of wood...
Progress!
Dropped the subframe out today. Lowering that myself was an experience to say the least! Had it balanced on 2 jacks as I removed the bolts.
So now that's off its heading back home with me to get stripped down, cleaned up and painted. Not decided on colours yet.
P.s. @Djw Dave...
It sounds like it could be UCH related, but check the positive terminal on the battery is tight. Mine was loose and my lights and radio would cut off for a split second as I turned the main beam on and off. Stopped as soon as I tightened the positive on the battery.
The fact I'll have to use the red bumper anyway (silver one's ruined after my deer incident!) is swaying me more and more towards painting it all red, but that's all money I could spend on trackdays! I'll stick to getting it running for now I think lol.
Wasn't expecting that much lol!
So my best option is most likely to refurb the spare box I have? I'll dig out a picture of the diff bit that's damaged. As said, apart from that bit, I'm 99% sure it's a much better box. Only thing I ever remember from it was a crunch into 3rd when hammering it...
Aye it's not a bad garage. Hopefully get a lot of work done in there and roll it out when it comes time to put the engine in! Once I get past tarting it up...
I currently have 2 ph1 gearboxes (one in the car, one lying spare) and I'm after some advice as to what one is best to get refurbed.
I originally planned to refurb the spare I have lying, but it has a fucked diff cup bit that the N/S driveshaft slots into, and also definitely has had loads of...
