It's fairly similar to the computer software industry though, eg. You buy Microsoft Office for Mac at £100 or something, you get 3 licenses. They are trying to get away from the buy a dvd and keep it, and more towards the license buying approach. Hardly much of a difference in terms of gaming...

Part of the value to others is the ability to simply download it as they want it and the convenience, rather than go to a shop and buy it etc, that value is probably greater to more than the value of having a hard copy these days.
