It's a tricky one, I would let him know it's a specialist job that requires specific tools from renault. Say to him if he's willing to show you proof he has these tools then you will let them carry out the work, if not then you would like the car to be done by a specialist or you would like to...

No need to panic at all. You will know if your dephaser goes as your car will sound like a diesel. But until then or until your cambelt is due just forget about it lol.

Yeah take it back. Cars not fit for purpose etc... Just search for some of the threads Daniel has commented in about situations like this they contain all the advice you will need to deal with the garage if they try and fob you off.

Its due when it gets noisy, it doesn't have to be replaced in a certain timeframe or mileage. A lot of people get theirs replaced when they do the cambelt as if it does go then you need to remove the cambelt to replace it which would mean its a £600 job. So for the sake of the cost of a dephaser...

I don't think they have service intervals for the dephaser usually they are more prone to going if the car hasn't had frequent oil changes.
