Mine fitted with R19 shafts and have been ok for last 30k miles, no knocking, no noises. Actually i saw them on the table side by side R19 and Willy, and i didnt notice any difference between those two...
Even though i feel sh*t now, i can still laugh to this. Im sure you didnt laugh at the time. Seems like anything can happen. But this doesnt look so easy. And unfortunately i think im paying this crap all by myself.
Cheers to all of you, u made my evening little better!
Engine is 2.0 F7R, aux belt and cambelt were both renewed week ago, along with few gaskets. I was running Elf excellium 5w-40 before, but it was changed to Valvoline 5w-50 week ago.
And the guy who did all the work, should really know what he was doing, he is been rally mechanic for a team...
Thanks guys
Engine actually fires up, but dies in seconds, it does some sort of misfire and that loud noise... bloody hell.. This is gonna be expensive!
I think i give it a third kick, its buggered anyway!
So if i try it third time will it break something more, or is the game lost already?
I will be very pissed if its the cambelt snap/jump... Cos it was renewed last weekend... and professional Renault mechanic did it...
Well... didnt check the aux belt, but that doesnt explain the clonking...
Thanks Jay, but its been running with same pressures (quite good) all the time (well if u can trust the gauge)
And the oil pump is fairly new, few years old, 30k miles...
Oh and im quite sure the clonking was coming from the head, not bottom...
What exactly will happen when any of those hydraulic tappets break? I experienced tappet noise today, but the engine was hot. Oil was running in 100 degrees. Noise has been there only when cold before... It was on park for a few hours and then i was about to go home BUT...
Well, tried to start...
Get a 16v manifold. Ive seen comparison in my car: Supersprint, Standard Willy, Standard 16v. Results were: Supersprint best, Standard 16v almost the same, Standard Willy crap. So get the 16v, no reason to burn ££££ for 1 bhp. But its not just a bolt on, there is little work included, but not...
Yep, just that. Cams added only 6 bhp, and right now we are wondering why... JE Pistons are told to be good and cheap. 800 € (inc.4 pistons and p&p) from Jaquemin Tuning, France. Standard willy exhaust manifold was very restrictive, dunno why 16v was soooo much better. Funny that you can use...
You can get to 180 hp mark without cams. Programmable chip (Unichip), headwork (valves also), quality forged pistons (for ex. JE) exhaust manifold and cat back (yes,no need to remove cat... Believe it or not but 16v manifold does a trick for a Willy) keep the original airbox, change the element...
Well, its very good yes, best oil ive ever used, but i live in country east from yours and wouldnt put that to engine when freezing... in cold starts thats no good... but when hot its charasteristics are unbeatable!
If live in Sweden i would use 10w-60 during the summertime (if thrashed lot)
Helix i would leave to shop and buy Elf Excellium 5w-40 for the other periods or very good allround use. Heard also that people who use valvers and willys for rallying use Valvoline Vr1 Racing 5w-50...
In Scandinavia we can only dream for that kind of prices , That is why i order all the parts i need from your country. And no one really knows nothing about Williams (5 cars in country i live) so thats why this forum is soooo important for us. Big thank yous for everyone who provided info...
Yup, near or over 600 (1100 euro cos i live in scandinavia) that is (and crap service, bullying etc) why i never visit the dealer again. Now i order all the stuff i need from GB. And my local garage is small but Renault approved, they do all the works cheap and are good blokes! Nice and easy...
Cheers Ben! Very useful info for me!!!
Is it possible that they use different part numbers so they can price the parts for Willy different. Just get the idea because my "local" Reno dealer quoted me 600 quid for the non-abs driveshaft. And the 19 1.8 16v shaft was 100 quid... hmm...
Good luck mate! Let us hear how it went in the end!
You cannot use your existing driveshafts, Willy ones are longer than ones in Valver, ive seen both on the table and the difference is significant! If u use your Valver shafts the problem could be that when steering to full lock, shaft will...
Do something said above, but dont buy CTR, ppl say Renos have problems and they suck etc etc. But ive had CtR...traded it for family wagon and bought myself 9 year old Clio... and much less problems with old Reno. Been there, seen that.... and never again!
u33db: If you can use the whole ARB from R19, then it cant set u back big time. Breakers are full of those but...ive read here that someone has already done this "conversion" for valver so they should know...
Im also really confused about all this myself too! Lets hope Jay or Ben will help us...
Sorry if asked before, but is rack supplied with control arms? I remember u told us before that track control arms can be changed separately so what is the difference between those two track rod ends? Or difference between control arms?
Cheers
u33db: Im afraid they wont meet, but im very interested to hear how it goes... So is this ARB and its bushes "the unique" parts for the Williams.... So everytime they give up im off to Reno ? And cheers Ben for details...
And what about the anti roll bar, its different too. But where is it from? The same as R19? Im also interested in this... cos i have problems finding antiroll bar bushes for Willy. And would prefer polyurethane. Standards are crap dont work in my combination. They break too often...
One thing crossed to my mind ... As said above, its classic etc...BUT it really isnt SO special. If it was, they would do it somehow different than fitting R19 wishbones for example. Actually it has very little UNIQUE in it. Many parts are from different R:s, not actually made just for Williams...
One of my first modifications was supersprint manifold and catback exhaust. dynod 160 bhp with those and a pipercross filter. So thats the one i can recommend...
Strange thing that on their website they claim that same bushes will go to 16v / williams, even i knew that they are different... I got R19 wishbone bushes from Powerflex, and those are fitted now. Dont know how much extra work was occured... but there they are..
