I spoke to Engine Dynamics (the pistons supplier) today and they have recommended the below spec:
Top ring: 0.35mm – 0.40mm
Second ring: 0.42mm – 0.45mm
Oil ring: minimum gap of 0.35mm
A fair bit smaller than what the piston paperwork recommends to work with, but they are meant to be...
Hi all,
I am in the process of building an engine for my r26... The machine shop has bored and honed the block, but have asked me to double check the ring gap size as they seem too big in their opinion.
I am using Supertech low compression pistons...
hi x86, Welcome to the Forum!
Plenty of local members between Derby and sheffield (including me!) where abouts do you live?
I can recommend Diamond Motors, MicKPM on the Forum. He is based in Long Eaton and is highly regarded here for any work on your Renault: http://www.diamondmotors.net/
That is also the same block as the Megane RS 225 / r26.. I believe they run the same pistons (but Laguna is slightly lower compression), but not 100% sure on that.
Worked fine on our 4K mile trip around Europe a few years ago ;) The only issue was the welds cracking due to the stiff mounting, this has been resolved by fitting rubber bobbins on the mount points iirc.
