Main thing to look for is a 1:1 magnification ratio, secondly you want a pretty long focal length (ideally 60mm or more, but nearer 100mm for insects etc). The Tamron 90mm 2.8 (which I use) and Sigma 105mm 2.8 are two of the most popular macro lenses at a reasonable budget.
They're pretty well respected, I believe (and usually a fair bit more expensive), an awful lot of people use them and I've not seen a great deal of negativity/broken cameras.
Is there a date in your account somewhere? In theory it will downgrade to a free account whenever it expires, but as far as I know BT haven't announced anything.
If anyone picks up the magazine this month, make sure you read the Dean Stoneman interview as well as the Clio stuff. Amazing story, I thought I did pretty well when I was in hospital seriously ill last year with my recovery etc, but he is on another level entirely.
Will be interesting to see how it works with people in your contacts that only upload a few at a time so they constantly appear in your contact feed of latest images. If in the new design they just hog the front page I'm sorry, but I'm removing you!
My understanding is that as long as you're a recurring Pro account holder (i.e. on a paid 3/12 or 24 month rolling sub) you will remain on a Pro account until either you stop paying or if they decide to end Pro completely.
Some people get Pro through vouchers or as a company benefit (such as...
Thoughts?
The new pricing structure is confusing as hell for existing Pro users, as far as I can tell we can keep our Pro accounts for now and retain stats, unlimited storage, no ads etc, or switch to free and lose stats, get 1tb storage and ads, or pay double what we pay now and still lose...
I'm feeling the X100 love at the moment.
I need my a77 for motorsport and wide angle stuff when we go travelling, so that's staying regardless, but as I was approaching a 35mm 1.4 purchase anyway I wonder if the money would be better used on an X100. As we're travelling later this year the...
Honestly, some great individual shots but as a set they don't 'wow' me like your shots almost always do, but I appreciate it must be incredibly hard to come up with something new. I realise saying that is useless without saying why, but as an example I don't think the framing of the 'through the...
Excellent shots, if I was throwing some constructive crit out there I think the panning needs a bit of variation, I love breaking 'the rules' with a frame-exiting pan now and again, but it's usually the exception rather than the rule.
If you think Thruxton is tough for a media tog you should...
Generally only the BMWs, I was expecting fireworks after hearing about earlier rounds, maybe Thruxton doesn't lend itself well to pop and bang remaps :)
Lovely shots, surprised you can see the stars in the St Paul's shot, I didn't think London had stars!
D800 + Sigma 35mm 1.4 will be all kinds of awesome I imagine.
eBay :) It was that or the Sigma 85mm 1.4, could never justify the Zeiss.
When I opened it the wife insisted I had bought some knock-off Samsung goods as she had never heard of Samyang! It only got worse when she saw the unbelievably naff lens pouch that came with it. She soon appreciated it...
I wouldn't own one without peaking, but the a77 makes it ridiculously simple and quick, especially with the magnify function of the viewfinder as well. Obviously not much use for moving subjects really, but £200 for an 85mm 1.4 was just too tempting.
Love test cat!
My model popped outside this evening for me, must have known my Samyang 85mm 1.4 arrived today. Bit nervous about a fully manual lens but the focus peaking on the a77 made it very easy...

Avon Rise has been fully debris-fenced now, so you don't get very many people watching along there (although it's a fascinating place to watch from). The only footage would come from the raised bit at Folly, but people don't often film from there (usually Camp or Quarry)
Normally I would be...
