    Chris' 106 GTI project.

Yep, people will argue about it all day long, but a healthy 106 with those mods will easily keep up with a 172. 120bhp book figure, but same as all performance Peugeots of that time, they often put out more, and they react very well to breathing mods. Would likely be 135-145bhp on those. Stick...

    Chris' 106 GTI project.

^ or it's been sorted before. Best part about these is how cheap spares are. Ball joints, drop links and track rods are about £28 for a full set.

    Differences in Ph1 Dashes

Exactly what i've done. All you need to do to get the cover off the airbag is drill the rivets. Have just whacked a lump of foam underneath the cover so it pushes the cover back up..

    Dog poly bush advice

Yep, bushes on a standard one will be black. On a powerflex, it'll be yellow or purple. Evol engineering is powdercoated. OE mount isn't.

Fitted Powerflex dog bone - couple of questions

Dogbone shouldn't be massively noticeable if paired with standard engine and gearbox mounts... Should just be more reactive on and off the throttle.

    Front drivers hub nut removal

I bent a 3ft breaker bar and snapped the joint on another with a length of scaffolding pole slid over it. Force, y0.

    Front drivers hub nut removal

If a six foot bar isn't undoing it, then you need to man up. Or take it to a garage and get them to loosen it with air, and nip it up again for you.

    Gearbox trouble, 172 cup

^ on a ramp, yeah. On the driveway, on your back in the rain, not so much. lol

    Gearbox trouble, 172 cup

Either box has eaten itself, or clutch/clutch release bearing problem. If the latter, it'll be evident when you slide the box off... Re: removal, yep, drop subframe down on passenger side and slide the box out through the wheel arch. Pinch bolt is an awkward fucker, but do-able. Needs a second...

Changing clutch - job for local garage?

Yep, shouldn't be many issues with a regular garage. I would use a specialist though, just because they'll know what they're doing so the labour time will be quicker. ~£450 inc parts is fair for the job.

    Gear leaver extention options?

There is an element of adjustment on it as standard tbh. Or cut and slide on further.

Oh god please not the injectors

If it's failed completely it's simple to diagnose. Unplug them on by one with the engine running. If the miss gets worse then it's not that one that's the problem. If it stays the same. It's goosed.

    Rubbing Aux belt advice

Lol, with mine, i'm never going to do the cambelt (until they start rising in value). If it s***s itself, i'll get a spare engine stuck in for £250 and fit it one weekend.

    Rubbing Aux belt advice

Depends on your mindset i suppose. For me, not worth the investment on most 172's (especially mine).
  25. Budgie

    Rubbing Aux belt advice

Hardly. Aux belt is half hour's work for someone who knows their stuff and £70 parts. Cambelt is a £500 job.

    Rubbing Aux belt advice

Aux belt is a simple enough job. No need for that to go to a specialist. Definitely buy a whole new kit though. Something's not right, sounds like the tensioner might be seized?
