Still looking good Gareth.... in fact it looks better & better each time I see update pics of the 'old-gal' - The condition of the interior was one of the things that 'swung' it when I originally brought the car from Matt in Aylesbury.... if i'm honest this was the only 172 that I looked at, but...
Any updates on the clutch fitting etc? I like the idea of the coilovers ('B' for Bilstein I presume?)….. this car is just getting better & better - when you are done, can I buy it back lol!
Sorry.... the slightly askew binnacle will play on your mind now ? Its funny, Matt (who previously owned your Clio) was also an ex-owner of a V6 Clio - a car i'd love to experience... despite being 'just' a Renault Clio, they do have the touch of the 'exotic' about them, but they are very...
Its looking better with every post Gareth! All the little bits that I would have done if i'd been able to have kept it as a 2nd/3rd car!...... Things like the amber bulbs & side repeaters, rear bumper & number plate light are all subtle, but add up to quite a change in the crispness of the car's...
Its still looking good Gareth...... it sure sparkles in the sunlight! Thanks for the close-up of the 'bollard' damage.... was so annoyed with myself when I did that ??
I'm so pleased its being cared for & looked after.... it would have rapidly deteriated had it been used by me on a daily basis...
Got to say that I am missing the ol’ Phase1 - seeing photos of it here isn’t helping lol! But with my recent change of jobs & thus increase in commuting mileage means it would have just been unfair on the old Clio.... it is nice to see that you have got somewhere dry in which to store it Gareth...
Thanks for the 'big-up':blush: I like to think that when I sell anything that the potential buyer know everything about it - the good points & the bad. I've been so lucky with the last two cars that I've sold in that they've gone to the absolute perfect new owners... last year I sold my...
So here endeth my ownership of X631 UGC..... as some of you maybe aware, my Phase1 172 is now in the ownership of forum regular 'mintno1' who I'm sure will look after the old-girl & give it the love & attention it really deserves. The '172' will always have a special place in my motoring heart...
I must admit this little Clio has gotten under my skin like few other cars that I've owned, yet its the car I probably have had less confidence in, in terms of reliability lol! But I suppose really I'm giving it a bit of a hard time - sure I did have to be recovered by the AA earlier in the year...
So its looking like the Phase1 is nearing the end of its time in my ownership - as tomorrow evening I pick up a Honda CR-Z.
These last few months the little Clio has been a bit of a source of expense & worry... at a time when I really need my daily driver to be reliable. Getting the Dephaser &...
So this is happening...... The dreaded Cam/Aux belts & dephaser pulley! The dephaser pulley noise suddenly got worse so have been avoiding driving the Ph1 for the last couple of weeks - luckily the weather has been nice enough that driving around in the Derby hasn't been too much of a hardship...
Not much to report on the Clio172 really - the Dephaser pulley remains a bit noisy... also what I suspect is the alternator's bearing causing a bit of a whistle, the clutch is still stiff (& high) & the oil leak/s haven't abated... but it keeps going & continues to surprise me with its fuel...
Went last Wednesday to a local monthly car meet (for anyone in the Northamptonshire area the Earls Barton meet on the 1st Weds of each month during the summer is well worth the visit )
I got asked if I wanted to park the Clio in the show - so thought why not..... was surprised to return...
I love the longer days & nicer weather we've been having - it meant that I could replace the cracked passenger side, side skirt with the one I purchased off mintno1.
On removal of the old skirt - I was rather disappointed to discover that the car dropping off the axle stand down onto the side...
Yes I was thinking of the possibility of doing just that - it would need the work of a professional as it I guess it would need some plastic welding/filling then re-spraying? Am following your build thread for your Cup - always quite exciting following other people's adventures with their...
Occationally see a 172 Cup going to & from work on the East side of W'boro (Northants) & today I saw a Trophy with a 'TROPHY' style personalised plate, driving out towards Sainsbury's along Northampton Rd...... are the owners of either car on here?
Thanks guys I still haven't had a chance to fit the side skirt yet Gareth, but I did drill out one of the fixing rivets so I know what size to order (or come up with an alternative?) - it's a shame really as your one does show the scars of your old car's higher mileage... but at least it won't...
I don't believe the car has ever lived in Scotland.... but I could be wrong - the first owner was apparently an Army Officer, the car was purchased through a German dealership where he was based at the time - so I have duplicates of the owners manuals - in English & German! Not sure if that...
Sorry - I've only just read your reply
I got the Rad from my local auto factors - its made by Nissens, was about £85 I think. I did ring up my local Renault dealership but said that Renault no-longer make the OEM genuine part but were offering to sell me a pattern part that would be...
I love this car - always evolving & improving... one of my favourites from the forum!
I only normally have eyes for the Phase1 cars, I ordinarily find the Ph2 RS Clios a little bit bland (please don't shoot me!) Maybe its because there are more of them around, or that the myriad of special...
This thread made me go off looking for ones for sale - & I keep drooling over that one on Millennium Heroes too!:tongueout:
.... Why have I just spent all my money doing up a 70s VW compact saloon??? (see Avatar) 😊
Really like these - just something about the way they look
Not sure if I could justify the premium these fetch over an M-Sport specced six-pot diesel powered BMW?
Managed to fit my new Radiatior in-between the rain showers yesterday, all seems OK so far, touching wood & fingers crossed lol!
Was looking at my old rad - it's obvious where it has been leaking from..... & it took me a short while to realise that the regular wear mark that pierces the...
There is something about the look of the Phase1 that appeals to me, partly because I like to be different, but I also think the front-end looks more purposeful!
@ ClioCollins, must admit RB Clios are quite uncommon so it's a surprise that I haven't seen you/your car about, I'll have to keep my...
Good tips for jacking up these cars, I must admit that lip on the Cill section looks very vulnerable & mines already a bit misshapen so doesn't give me a lot of confidence. I'm actually very annoyed with myself, as I know I'm normally far more careful when jacking up & working underneath a car...
