So after the success of my Clio passing its MOT a couple of weeks ago, two things happened that have taught me valuable lessons about cars.....
Whilst my car was in for its MOT - the tester (& good mate) said that there seemed to be a bit of a coolant leak - this was something I had spotted...
Cool, if you could take a photo/s of the door card when you can that would be great.... tbh I'm probably being a little too fussy with the crack that's in mine! Maybe we can discuss the Autochanger & door card Ref; prices etc via pm.... must admit I'm in no rush for either at the moment, with...
Thanks! I must admit I had all my fingers & toes crossed! No major plans again really.... just keep it maintained & running, my mate (the MOT tester) is notoriously thorough when it comes to MOTs & he did spot that there was a small amount coolant leaking from somewhere around the bottom of the...
So last weekend whilst sorting my paperwork I thought I'd better check when the MOT was due for my Clio... I'd had it in the back of my mind that it due April or March..... except when I checked it, it was due to expire on the 4th of this month... Saturday just gone!
So I managed to book it in...
That's a great photo.... possible shot for next year's calendar?
Been enjoying reading through your thread mintno1! Seems like we are going down very similar paths with our phase1s .... finding niggly problems but having fun solving & fixing them... the only problem with that 'list' is that for...
Another minor update - but these little jobs really are quite satisfying & addictive!
Yesterday (when for just 5mins it wasn't raining) I had a go at making the cracked leather on the driver's seat bolster look a little better... with some navy blue shoe polish that I found in my parent's shoe...
If that's the case then I'm not going to worry! I know the system could do with a flush - the previous owner said it was the one thing that he hadn't done in his ownership he was going to do it but hadn't got round to it, but gave me the (genuine Renault [type D?]) coolant he was going to use -...
I'd just arrived home after the 2 1/2hr drive - so the engine was fully warmed up! Just below half way on the temp gauge I thought was about 'normal'??:confused:
I'm sure it will be ok.... for sure I would have preferred/brought a genuine Renault filter (& I will next time) - but unless the WIX filter is of such poor quality that it doesn't actually filter oil - or worse still breaks down inside then I'm it will do the job - certainly better than not...
The previous owner claimed that my Ph1 Clio had an oil change every 6k or so miles, but hadn't actually kept a record of any of the servicing that he had done, but just from meeting the seller I was confident that he had serviced the car regularly - I did however have a receipt for the Cambell...
This car gives me goosebumps!! Thanks for the info on the steering wheel - I must admit mine feels remarkably 'fresh' given its age & 74k mileage so it would figure that it's been changed at some point - it has no stitching, it's just a plain rubber wheel & does feel quite 'base-spec'.
Re...
..... also just a thought - my (slightly later) Phase1 has a plain 'rubber' rimmed steering wheel - where as yours is leather, should mine have had a leather rimmed wheel too do you think?
Wow! What a transformation - great work!! The Phase1s are in my opinion (& I'm unashamedly biased) the best looking of all the RS Clios & the OEM+ look of yours enhances the car's already good looks, the 16" F1s really set it off!
A real inspiration for my own Titanium Ph1!!
I didn't realise that the 16s were/could be OE from Renault - Were they an option for the RS Clio - or from a different Renault in the range? I always thought that when people fitted the 16"s they were aftermarket (although obviously all manufactured by OZ)
OMG! I've just been reading through some of Phase1SR's thread - I'm absolutely in love with that car!..... I think I should stop reading anymore of it as it makes me feel depressed by just how 'average' my Phase1 is by comparison! LOL!:fearscream:
Nice DC5, & those Rays are gorgeous!
I've recently gone the other way - sold my DC2 & brought an RS Clio - mainly to cash-in on the values that the Hondas seem to be commanding these days. In fact it certainly seems to be a sellers market out there at the moment for all sorts of 'cult' or...
Certainly £5.99 well spent! The alcantara material on the door cards is actually in great shape, it's just a shame that there's a split in the grey vinyl down near the speaker grille, it's really the only thing that lets the interior down.
Said to myself that I wouldn't do any work on the Clio this weekend - but I couldn't resist trying out the de-bobbler machine thing that arrived in the post on Friday. I spent a good few minutes tackling the front seats;
Before;
After;
Looks better I think - I'll give the fabric itself...
It's a hard job but someone has to do it I guess :smile: I love the look of the Zagato DB4, you say this is a replica, how close is it in terms of construction/engine etc to an original - or is it a genuine Aston with a rep Zagato body? Either way it's certainly something special to drive?
PS...
Good work! It's amazing how time flies when you are trying to get a list of jobs done - sounds like you are almost there with solving your issues? The only thing I did with mine today is to give it a wash, after a couple of weekends fiddling around with the greasy bits - it was nice just to...
Go for it - it's such a relief to be able to regulate the accelerator smoothly! It took me about four hours in total, but then I did take my time, trying to be methodical - to be fair, most of that time was spent walking backwards & forwards to the shed to get different tools & trying to find...
So today I renewed the throttle cable & whilst it hasn't solved the slight 'flare' of revs when arriving to a stop before settling back to the normal idle speed (I will take out the idle control valve & inspect/clean that up at another time). But I'm pleased to report that the accelerator pedal...
