and painted:
Big shout out to the Chris at the Chop Shop in Stratford upon Avon for the work.
Once the 205 has finished emptying my wallet I will get some PDR booked to sort the tailgate and the bonnet and it should be properly presentable!
Update from the Bodyshop: it’s done and ready to collect.
Rust was worse than expected and the inner sill, arch and support panel were also going:
Fortunately I had a cut including all sill panels:
Solid again:
Finally got my Bodyshop pinned down. Dropped off for replacing the rear half of th n/s sill. Hopefully that will see me rust-free for a few years. The o/s is really solid, just the n/s had a new quarter and they didn’t rustproof the rear. ☹️
Photos when I get it back…
Hi. I have a friend who is looking for a more insurance friendly Clio 2.
I have seen a nice looking ph1 1.4S in budget and local. It is nicely looked after with impeccable history but he says it has a timing chain, not a belt.
I wasn’t aware of any chain driven Clio engines. The reg is W181WOE...
Amazing. Thanks. That’s a worry off my mind.
Although my anally retentive side will still not allow me to leave them unfixed. Things that do t work on cars just bug me too much…😂
The MOT coming round has prompted a spate of progress on this.
First up was my hard won NOS passenger drive shaft. (Both boots shot on the old one and grease and gearbox oil everywhere was getting tiresome.
The O/S driveshaft outer boot was also worse for wear due to some careless span wrong...
Thanks all. I got blinded by the gorgeousness of the LY. 😅
I see the overspray on screws and the bungs in the tailgate recess now it is pointed out. At least a black engine bay doesn’t clash!
If I was going to go that route, 4K would pay for mine to be sprayed and I’d know what I had as well!
My wife keeps saying she doesn’t like me driving the clio because other drivers never seem to see it!! (Titanium 182) her exact weirs we’re can’t you get a yellow or red one… (well, if you’re asking…😁)
I notice there’s a LY 182 on the bay at present. Clicky
Looks really nice, basically...
Hi, yes. My timing was indeed out by around 7 degrees. I got it rest at a specialist, and it is like a different car. Both in terms of idle and drivability. I have an after clip on my tidy up thread in the projects section If that helps.
Although doing a timing belt on these is a pain...
3 dr mk2 clips all seem to have what looks like a vertical joint in the factory sill panel about half way down the door.
I thought this would be an overlap and spotweld joint between the quarter and front part of the sill but now my body cut is apart it is obviously not.
I was hoping to join...
progress has been made, more off the car tho!
I have had a passenger sill cut for some time, to repair the rust from a previous 1/4 replacement that was never rust protected.
So:
Plus a lot of spot welds drilled,
Turned into:
The rust is surface, so I will remove it with some citric acid...
A mini driver today forgot BMW minis are not actually small and clattered my drivers mirror at some pace on a back road.
I stopped and spoke to her and let it go, it’s only £8 for a new glass so didn’t feel worth the aggro.
BUT. Just after we’d driven off I found the drivers window is no longer...
Wiper removal tool returned to Amazon and refunded, and a better one bought.
This led to:
Quick scrub:
Cleared the tubes with my bike pump, checking that water sprayed out of both headlight washers. All good.
Refitted:
I was all happy with working washers and headlight wash, and then this...
I have managed to score a new genuine 182 cup n/s driveshaft from a fb seller to replace my current one which is leaking gearbox oil from the inner gaiter.
I have changed a bunch of driveshafts before but never one this style.
I’m assuming it is:
Drop gearbox oil
Undo hub nut
Split hub ball...
I went for a road trip for work down to Penzance and the Clio performed faultlessly so pretty happy with that! While I was up there I saw this offer and I was staying right next to an ATS so it seemed rude not to:
Aircon is now ice cold! Yay!
On the way back I did quite a bit of Facebook...
There is a 15cm or so link loom with the square plug on the end for the brake light connector and a mating connector for the car loom on the other end.
I don’t know if they were ever available separately. I hope you get sorted.
I have the car back. Chris had it for a few days and nipped up a pipe union on the steering rack, which seems not to be leaking anymore! (Yay)
Also loosened, wriggled and retightened the lower u joint to rack coupling which seams to have cured the last remaining tiny hint of a tight spot.
To...
Since my 2004 182 blower fan has gone intermittent and a new resistor has done nothing to fix it, I think it’s time to replace it.
There seem to be 4 different types of fans listed for the clio mk2:
One in a snail shaped housing (I assume phase 1?)
Non ac
With ac (but not climate)
With...
