I'd also like to speculate that around the time of the Williams, Renault had pulled a fair whack of funding away from WRC, as it was then. The homologation system was different, the Willy didn't have a turbo and was in a different class to the Turbo 5's. I think this is correct?
Also, I am...
I think it's a little unfair to say the Williams never won anything. It won drivers hearts, real world driving not on some tricked up special stage, and thats the main thing. This is it's epitaph and it's undeniable.
My 2 cents.
I think these are the ones?

The Williams isn't about straight line speed. It's about the sheer fun factor. However, it can sure as hell keep up with if not beat a lot of modern day so-called 'performance-cars'.
The latest incarnation of Performance Car did a review in issue 1 on the 197 Cup and loved it. Then they drove...
the cheaper ones seem to be diminishing in numbers due to people buying and breaking them.
Apart from mine, I have only seen 2 Williams near me in several years of keeping my eye out for them, so they are getting rare.
Also, they are good fun cars, with some serious performance. They were made...
In an EVO review some time ago, they pitted the Willy and 172 against each other. The Willy came out top vs other hot hatches as well.
The Williams is an iconic car now, become legend, and eventually a myth. You cant beat a legend mate:

I know what...
Ok, so I am off to buy me a Williams soon, but one thing I wanted to know early on is:
Do larger wheels (same circumference though) mess up a Willy's handling. I don't want uber wide wheels as that will cause tramlining etc.
Are the standard wheels 6.5 x 15 (think they are). Is 7 x 16 too...
Something I'd love to see (and I'm sending them a letter to recommend it) is a shoot out between a Williams, a 182 and a 172. EVO have been singing the praises of the 182 a fair deal lately, and occassionally make reference to the old King, the Willy...so I want a direct head to head and see...
