Have TV's come down in price dramatically lately? That seems extremely cheap. It might be because I'm not really in touch with the prices, but seems cheap to me?

There's that one, and then there's another one, they both look the same, except one is powered and has a remote to manually switch it. I'm presuming the boxes like those deliver much better performance than the basic splitters like these:

There is one for £25 at Maplins which has auto switch and manual switch. If it is worth getting a slightly more expensive one, then I'll do that and not bother with one of the £10 ones and then have to buy a better one anyway.

2 leads into 1 port on the TV. Not sure if that makes it a splitter or joiner?

Could my inability to do this be anything to do with having a seriously old lap top?

Can anyone recomend a HDMI splitter? It's only for in the bed room, so I don't want to spend huge amounts on it, but want to be able to run a PC and a DVD on HDMI if possible. Will there be a huge loss in quality on the £5 type splitter, or will it be hard to notice unless you're looking for...

Handbrake definitely doesn't work. It won't open the DVD to start converting it - if that makes sense? Any other suggestions?

Tried that, doesn't like it for some reason, just says there is an error and won't convert the DVD.

Can anyone recomend a programme to do this that does it from start to finish? Or is there a decent guide soemwhere? Finally got some more space, so I can put some programmes on my iPod for when I'm working away, so want to get my sopanos box set on there. Any advice appreciated.

Your contract is with the people you bought the product from, not the manufacturer iirc. It is up to them to get the problem solved, but you will still have the issue of being without a lap top, as if PC world are anything like Comet (same company iirc), the customer service is truly abysmal.

Lol, it's 5+ years old mate. I just don't want to shell out for a new lap top, so if I can make it last a little while longer, then I'm all good. That does sound exactly how it is. I'll probably have a blast at it and see what happens. Cheers for all the replies.
