This thread can be condensed to ; What is the perfect cup of tea? Strong, weak, milk, sugar? So many variables. So many ways to make a car work the way you like it. I have had many a disagreement with other drivers concerning toe settings. I like toe out on FWD cars, for me it dials out...
A pal of mine has just found some photos of my daughter and I at Tregrehan, will post a couple here to keep the thread going whilst I do a bit more boring welding and filling. Next phase will be the front mount intercooler and front end subframe, followed by paint.
Can't comment on yellowstuff, never used them. What I will say is that I have always used redstuff pads front and rear in my 172, and have nothing but praise for them. They have coped with 160 mile road rallies in the SW, where you are constantly on the brakes for six hours non-stop, and I have...
Weighed the car today. There are a few small lightweight items to go on it, but really pleased
760kg!!!
I Reckon just over 800kg when it's finished
:approve:
Finally, before I packed up, I decided there was time for it to end up looking like this.
Just had to be tried on for size!
And this morning at the meet, my daughter Tammy, who will be double driving the car with me, also had to have a go. She wins the widest grin competition!
Wait till you see this lot!
On Thursday morning, Jason from Scoobybits asked if I would like to drop the engine back in again, as he was having a breakfast open morning this Saturday, and it would an interesting talking point for visitors. I had a think and hatched a cunning plan! I reckoned I...
More progress, been welding more than anything, so not too many exciting pics to show. However last week we spent some time thinking about the problem of the cooling system. As the Clio engine bay is shorter the the Subaru, and the bonnet line lower, radiator position was undecided.
Had a dummy...
I disagree. It's not bodged. Somebody has had the rear beam off the car, and as usual, due to the crappy way Renault make the bolts captive, the heads have spun when trying to remove the nuts. Simplest solution is to weld the bolt heads.
Might have been nice to put a bit of paint on them to make...
Been working on the front end now, had to cut the original Subaru top front chassis rail off, as it was too wide to allow me to fit the Clio V6 front wings. I bought some 4" U section from my local steel stockists, and fabricated some new, narrower chassis rails. End results here.
I feel we have reached a milestone with the project now. So far most of has been destructive rather than constructive. At long last I have started reconstruction work. The rear half of the floorpan has been aligned carefully, various fill in panels and strips cut, and actually welded in. Whoopee!
Pop in and see us anytime.
Sorry to disappoint, but it will be far too delicate to be used on the road.
You will just have to wait for the in-car videos from events and track days!
A quick photo from yesterday as a teaser, bolted the front end together to see exactly how many bits of tube are going to be needed to stop the fibreglass wearing away on the floor!
Bit more progress to report this week. I have been working on the roll cage, as I am in the fortunate position of being able to work on it outside the car! All the welds have been completed on the main part of the cage, with the added bonus of being able to do it outside the car. Makes like...
May do Chivenor, will depend on what tyres I end up having the budget for. If its the hillclimb Avons, then no, 'cos a sprint will f*ck them big time! If I end up with Dunlop rally tyres this year, then yes, may well do Chivenor.
A bit more progress now, got the front part of the floorpan sorted to fit under the Clio. It's quite amazing just how well the two fit together. Good job I have the V6 bodykit, though, I don't think standard wings would work!
Next job was to see how the rear half of the scooby floorpan fitted into the Clio shell. Once more, out with the trusty grinder, line it up, and start chopping. After a morning's work it looked something like this.
Another angle
Still amazed at how well it fits together!
Finally today I...
No, been waiting on the roll cage to arrive from France. Got some more work done, so time for the next installment.
First of all another pat on the back for K-Tec Racing. Got my lovely new Oreca roll cage to me faster than they said it would be. Top marks Shaun and the guys.
First job when the...
