as bigash says, its on at 1600rpm all the way to 6500rpm
the kick you feel at 5Krpm is nothing to do with vvt, that's just a characteristic of the engine/cams
Just to add, with the gripper in James' clio i could get on the power way before the apex, that's either me braking too much (possible LOL) or the diff is really amazing, looking at the data Vs James however i believe i was quicker in and out of most of the corners bar island at Oulton
just be careful with whom you chose to fit the Quaife if you go down that route, we've seen several shimmed incorrectly and hence the quaife makes all sorts of noises, for some reason every single quaife i've fitted to a JC5 has needed shimming to hell
i'll re-phrase, MY exhaust has to be allowed to move
and the movement is more than you think

and with solid mounts the exhaust vibrates the boot floor which makes it horrible to drive due to noise!
its designed to run a stock mount (buy a vetec one from GSF, cheaper and stronger than OE)
going solid may snap the brackets off the backbox as the exhaust HAS to be allowed to move
I've never actualy done one as just a cambelt change, they always have the clutch done too
but with everything its around £1250ish off the top of my head
