Tres true. But for a £500 budget, I'd much rather have a 50" plasma than a 42" LCD. I'd have loved to have a bigger budget and stick with LCD but other priorities rear their ugly heads...
'Vivid' on my LG is a horrific picture, really bright and false. 'Expert 1' with brightness around 45 looks perfect. Just a shame I'm still rolling with a lowered contrast for another few weeks.
Knows. Plasma FTW. I'm bedding in my new LG plasma and the picture is immense, even on low settings. Probably no better than modern LCD/LED screens but coming from an old Toshiba LCD, I'm amazed.
Apparently they need bedding in to avoid image retention whilst the panels are in their infancy. Whether this is rubbish or not, I don't know, but AV Forums bods seem to sweat by it.
Gaming seems to be thought particularly susceptible to IR as there is a lot of static images.
The first rule is never listen to anyone who says a TV can be too big for a room. 50" is the smallest acceptable size for a 'main' TV nowadays when they're so friggin cheap. I'm currently about 3ft away from my 50".
Chris, you do realise that the TV will be bigger than you though, don't you?
My brother in law wants to buy this :( I've tried desperately to show him it's way overpriced but he's into the whole bodykits and lexus lights thing.
Please, someone dig up some bad history on it so I can put him off and persuade him to spend less money on a newer, lower miles example!

Got your message mate. My phone doesn't let me reply so have text you.
Catch up properly soon?
Cheers, I'll have a look at the measurements and see if I can work the speakers down and the TV cutout larger. Would you say bring the speakers down so they're beside the display or just slightly above, pointing down a bit? I've allowed 50mm around a 50" TV so can hopefully stretch it a bit...
The speakers at the top? Not really as the wall either side of the false wall are solid brick chimneys and I don't want to mount anything on them. The left hand speaker (as you look at it) could probably move onto the that chimney as it's all bricked up, but the brick chimney we want to keep as is.
Very basic sketch, but this is what I'm thinking in terms of placement. Have sacked in the idea of a projector because it just wouldn't get used enough. A nice 42-50" TV will suffice. :)
Yeah I don't think I'd use it enough to really gain the benefit of it properly, compared to getting a larger TV instead. The thought of footy on the projector is nice though...
