This is absolutely epic! Love seeing these beasts around. Would love an estate version, I remember they could have the 2 extra seats in the boot they were that big!
Looks a really nice example, and again nice to see one being kept standard (ish).
You could always replace the sticky interior bits while you track down some decent ones, or would maybe a coat or two of plastidip look similar? I’m sure I’ve seen it done somewhere.
I thought changing the chra wasn’t as simple as it seems because it needs to be put in the exact way and then balanced up? May be more hassle than it’s worth?
Love it with the 182 wheels. They seem to suit flame red and Monaco so well. You’ve made some nice progress on this, looks very nice.
Wish I could have another 172/182, miss the feel of driving one. Sadly stuck with my Fabia vrs for a bit though.
I remember there was a red cosworth rotting on a drive by me, it was sat there for ages and I assumed it was a rep, but no it was a genuine escort cosworth. Such a shame. Long gone now though, never did find out what happened. It wasn’t in a great area either.
That’s a nice little bonus then! Looking again at it it does sit really well. Also I’ve heard them with the centre silencer chopped out, certainly sounds how it should’ve from the factory.
Couldn’t take a picture as I was driving but saw a new defender lwb earlier this evening. It was disguised but could tell what it was. Plus I googled it when I stopped.
Yeah I’ve had a 182 and two 172’s and I was amazed with the mpg they returned.
Love the look of yours. The rear with the tips does look complete and finished.
I drove a non-cup 200 a while ago. I really liked it but as has been echoed above on the 10 mile test drive I didn’t quite gel with it. The salesman was pushing me on and although it was quick the gearbox has a few niggles like slow to react. I was driving a merc slushbox auto so it was much...
Lol at the prices though, rrp £2085, our price £2295.41...... seems a bargain!
Car looks lovely. A couple of houses near me have them and they look the business. Ones orange and looks amazing, but I like the stealthy look of the black.
I managed to do mine on a 172 without removing the hub. I smacked the top bit off with a chisel and hammer and then drilled it out. Worked a dream and the new one fitted straight in. Did the sandpaper trick on it as well.
I’ve had both the ph1 gearstick in my 182 and a richbrook round knob on my 172. Ph1 was brilliant feeling but the richbrook was equally nice. They pop up now and then (ph1) for around £20-25. Not fun fitting it though.
Also the seats in a 182 were ever so a lightly different, with a dotted Alcantara insert in the seat. You can tell the difference. Also you could measure the suspension bolt holes to see if it’s cup packed, as it has a cup rear spoiler.
As said above it wouldn’t be the first time cars were registered incorrectly. My 1st 172 was a cup apparently, despite actually being a normal 172. I would bet it is a 182 as has also been said above, can’t see someone changing the rear boot floor just for an exhaust.
Iirc the boot floor of he 182 did look ‘messed with’ or an afterthought. As the body and bodywork was pretty much the same.
Im sure 2004 saw both the last 172 and early 182 models, so chances are it is.
What colour is it? Post a picture as that will give clues too.
Absolutely beautiful mate. Congrats! Bet the days are dragging!!
I think it looks really nice on those wheels, different to the usual black multi spokes.
this is worrying for a future purchase. I thought this era Clio didn’t rust so I was under the impression they were treated. Scary to see rust down there. Reminds me of the old minis.
Iirc driving without insurance is 6 points and a fine, mot and tax will be dealt with via a fine by dvla I think. Maybe a ban as he failed to even do one of the three. Stupid though because of the risk to others.
I can’t see how anyone can get away with it nowadays though.
