Haha , your findings similar to mine ,test of snow foams on the forensic detailing channel showsed rust when left on bare metal and none with bilt hamber .

Used bilt hamber auto foam today ,was around 3% pir (says can be used between 1 and 5% ) was far better than polar blast and has anti corrosion properties, I've only used these two snow foams but happy with bilt hamber
I use one of these does the hole car in ten mins, uses less, easy to get off as does not loads of product. Just wet it, squeeze it out and good to go.

Make sure it's certified or it's not worth having ,I got a draper one for £30 ,looks like the cheap ones but it's certified and came with test paperwork, so Good as anything for occasion use.
Just had this problem, used a twelve sided socket ( normal six sided just slipped) for more grip and a mallet to hammer it on, took two different size sockets, mine had collars on . Good luck
