In that case, I would recommend keeping the standard callipers, if you don't go on track that much. The 4 pots are a fair step up in price. I'd go for DS2500, and the Hc discs, and would absolutely change the fluid, as well as changing the lines.
Crucially, what brakes were on there before? You mentioned they were standard, but do you mean standard pads as well? And which brand of OE pad? Are you using it on track or just fast road? I've found on my 172 cup road and targa rally car, that standard calipers are more than enough for...
Car is pretty loud with decat and no centre silencer. Chances are it's a harmonic frequency resonating through the car. Take a look to make sure the exhaust mounts are ok I guess.
I think with solid tops you'll get a certain amount of noise you wouldn't normally expect... Its hard to say really, having not heard the noise myself, but my 172 Cup is pretty loud
Yeah, the key for lights I have found is to be a bit bold. Start with something like 800 grit wet and dry, with plenty of water, and get them sanded right back, then use 1200 grit, and build up to 2000 grit, and then polish with the megs kit. Chrisfix on youtube does a great tutorial for...
The carrier usually refers to the part on the front brakes which holds the caliper itself, and incorporates the sliders, although I'm not sure what you would describe the above part as.
I had a 30 minute test drive in one, and can say the following. It doesn't have the raw fizz of my 172 Cup, that's for sure, nor does it have the same razor sharp response. However, it is very civilised, and is pretty quick with it. I did really like the gearbox, and I wanted to dislike the...
You mean the large part that holds the pads in? I don't think I've ever seen one rusted beyond use! I certainly wouldn't look to buy an entire new caliper because of it. Unfortunately I just sold my spare rear calipers!
You could switch it all over as Steve said, but you'd basically be converting a 182 cup suspension to std 182... I personally really wouldn't, just grab another set of new suspension and put the old stuff for sale
I'd go with George at RTR, I have bought from him a couple of times, and won't hesitate to by from him next time. Excellent service, and recommended by most on here, as opposed to eBay items, which are a little more risky.
I'd grind the caliper as Pauleds said. So long as you are only taking a couple of mm off, it wont be a problem. I'd probably do it on a bench grinder though, you'll be able to keep it neat.
As above really, for road use, Brembo are fine. If you are pushing hard or into your road rallies, 1144's are a mild upgrade, but I wouldn't bother unless you are getting fade.
Hi, and welcome to the forum. I would also suggest a bad earth, I once tried to work out what was going on on an Alfa GTAm hillclimb car where the rear lights seemed to be possessed by the devil. Turns out it was just a bad earth.
Look for anywhere wet, such as inside the rear tail lights...
He said 192bhp in an earlier post, as per standard formula renault 2.0. Not sure if this is still the case, but it certainly was as of about 2 pages ago XD.
Awesome work mate, well done!
The order of things I would check/replace are:
Plugs (check gap and colouring)
Ignition leads (standard ones often fail, Magnecor's are better)
Ignition Coil
Crank position sensor (bit of a menace to get to, but mine went and caused exactly what you're describing)
I have had the leads and the...
Make sure you get the correct length and thread. If you buy 12.9 (or 10.9 realistically) high tensile bolts, they will be at least as strong as the ones Renault put in there from factory. Kay's fasteners on eBay are good for 12.9 high tensile bolts. It's worth applying some copper grease to...
Hi, after doing my wheel bearings, I am left with a press I don't have too much use for. If anyone wants front/rear wheel bearings pressing in contact me, as I'm looking to cover the cost of my press, or at least justify having it set up in my garage.
Cheers!
I didn't feel very involved when I tested the Trophy, and the steering didn't feel as direct as I had hoped, although I did love the gearbox. That said, it could have been the novelty factor, as I have not driven many cars with paddles. The car didn't feel very fast either, although I appreciate...
