Ah nice! If you see a chap on a green suzuki gsx750f next week, thats me as well! Always puts a smile on my face seeing the clio RS' s around.

    Help with my failed MOT.

When you buy your replacement wheel, make sure it looks the same as the one you take off. Type clio wheels into ebay and look for one that looks the same. Ideally all four wheels should match, or it looks horrible. Alternatively, if you upload a pic of your car I'll have a look and send you some...

    Help with my failed MOT.

Tyres should be about £40 ish depending on size, look on black circles website, they are quite good, they come out and fit the tyres to the car for you. Getting new wheels with tyres on for £40 is not always a great deal, since the tyres on there may be worn out, so there's not a lot of point...

    passenger airbag light

It's really not hard, just be careful and should have it done in under 2 hours.

    passenger airbag light

I took my clocks out and apart and pulled the LED's off the clock PCB for my MOT today, and it worked ok! It's a bit medieval, but its free and easy.

    Tracker

I use an Xsource tracker off of amazon on my 172. It's reasonably complex to fit (compared to the simple trackers) but it works from a payg sim card, with no subscription, and responds to texts from your phone. You can set it up to do all sorts of things such as cutting the fuel when you text it...

    Caged 200 (white), Silver 182, Blue 172?: Kent/Sussex

Ah yeah, I'm going to stop daily driving the clio soon in favour of a bike (FZR 600)... Still keeping the clio, but only as a weekend/rally/trackday car

Ah thats a shame, what are you replacing it with?

Ah awesome! I saw a black 200 in tonbridge wells today, and waved, could have been you? I have Phillips Tyres on my side skirt (bit garish, but free tyre changes are worth it XD)

    Caged 200 (white), Silver 182, Blue 172?: Kent/Sussex

I have spotted the above clio RS's on my commute over the past few days, and wondering whose they are! Silver 182 (lowered) with bucket seats in and around Crowborough, we often wave in passing, I am in the 172 Cup! White 200 in Snodland Shell garage, with roll cage, very nice car indeed! We...

    Beating the post-VX220 blues... Newbie

I think the best price/performance mods I have done/tried are solid top mounts and koni adjustable dampers. While they don't allow height adjustment like a coilover, they are a lot cheaper than a decent set. A good set of seats and steering wheel makes a hell of a difference too.

    Beating the post-VX220 blues... Newbie

I love my 172 cup, there's a few different things that imo make it probably the best basis for a track car, there's no ABS, Air con (weight saving and power saving) and the front suspension has a slightly different geometry. Great fun car right out of the box, although you may do better to hold...

    Gearbox rebuild/upgrade advice

Awesome, thanks for the advice, which vag box is it? And how much work is involved with driveshafts and bell housings, ie are parts off the shelf or custom made jobs? Cheers

    Gearbox rebuild/upgrade advice

Hi, I'm wanting to rebuild my gearbox in a couple of months, but as my car is going to be used predominantly on rallies I want to upgrade from the current box to something better. Ideally I would go sequential, but I don't think I can afford it (not found someone selling one yet) so I am...

New 182 owner, will be digging for info!

Welcome to the forum mate, most people tend to use brembo HC discs for track work, although some go for the more expensive HC maxi ones (with the grooves in). I have only used HC's although I have never managed to warp them, even in rallies. Track pad choices are usually Mintex 1155 for budget...

    Rear Wheel Bearing Issues

George at RTR is your man for discs, give him a message on here and ask for a price on some. He sells genuine renault rear discs and brembo's (although the brembo's don't come with ABS rings, so I would personally go renault ones). He does the best prices I have been able to find for club members.

Dodgy 172 hub carrier, so i've been told...Please help

EDIT: I just read an article that says 172 brakes wont fit on 1.2 hubs, so that would make me think the hub is different. Assuming someone hasn't been a total special case and swapped your 172 suspension and brakes to 1.2, there's almost 0 chance you have non sport hubs on there.

Dodgy 172 hub carrier, so i've been told...Please help

Pretty sure you'd have a hard time fitting a non sport hub to a 172, as they have different wishbones! Not sure of the difference, but google images is your friend. The lower suspension ball joint would certainly cause a knocking noise, but you should only have to replace the joint. In case you...

The 'What MPG Do You Get?' Thread

172 Cup, drive it for my 38 mile commute (38 there, 38 back) and it's traffic in the morning and clear in the evening. I usually get between 44 and 45.5 mpg, driving like a saint because it's the only thing to keep me occupied through the traffic. Mostly A/B roads on the commute, and the car is...

New pads wont move in the caliper

I use copper grease, never had a problem, and the brakes on rallies get plenty toasty. By all means use another grease, but copper works fine for me.

Engine Sometimes Not Starting - Mk2 Clio

Ah right, cool, will remember it for next time.

Engine Sometimes Not Starting - Mk2 Clio

Not disputing your knowledge, but why would a weak battery cause it to have an intermittent starting issue?

Engine Sometimes Not Starting - Mk2 Clio

If you have feeler gauges you could take them out and check the gap, although I would doubt that that was the problem. You could try some redex, since you mentioned rocking the pedal seems to help it. My thinking is that the injectors could be a little dirty and it's reducing the flow. The other...

Engine Sometimes Not Starting - Mk2 Clio

Yeah, if you take off the oil filler cap and there is a white mayonnaise like substance on the cap, or if you find the same substance in the coolant, that points to the gasket being on the way out. The reason for this is that the oil mixes with water and forms an emulsion, which is what you can...

    Toyo R888's

Just a word of caution to running semi slicks on the front and normal tyres on the back, it will make the car quite oversteery if you are pushing hard...

    Toyo R888's

+1 to the above, I use 180 compound NS-2R's for road rallies, I find the wet performance and wear to be better than the R888, with the drop in dry grip to be too marginal to fully exploit on the road. I have been daily driving the NS-2R's as well as I managed to take all my other tyres below...

Engine Sometimes Not Starting - Mk2 Clio

Probably 50-80 quid I should expect, although I am no expert as I do all the work on mine myself. The sensor for mine was 20 quid, and to fit I removed the airbox (two screws) and ten unbolted the sensor (it's only held on with 2 bolts). There is a tutorial on youtube on a 1.2 here:

Engine Sometimes Not Starting - Mk2 Clio

My 172 was doing that, as well as misfiring very heavily occasionally at 5000 rpm. I replaced the crank sensor and it fixed the issue. That could be the cause of your starting issue, and it is only cheap to replace. Buy a non genuine part, if it fixes it and then the problem comes back after a...
