I concur. We have the W905 and it's brilliant.
Personally, I'd hang off 4K until people stop titting about with codecs, I believe netflix have just announced which 4K codec they're using and surprise surprise there are lots of 4K TVs out there which don't support it.
Let the early adopters...
You can buy them in currys if that's more convenient. I did that last time my cable went up in a puff of smoke, Apple store meant a ride out to kingston and I could walk to currys....so that was the easier solution.
Of course, the environmentally friendly thing for apple to do would be to make...
Another man who ranks job satisfaction and life over a crappy job. I personally couldn't think of anything worse than a "promotion" that takes me away from doing what I love most.
From solving puzzles to shuffling paper. No ta.
I couldn't even begin to imagine waking up in the morning and...
Do people still buy music? (we use Spotify & Google All Access)
Anyway, a summary:
Apple continued with their "head in the sand - our way is the right way approach".
Forstall got pushed.
Apple have since then actually listenened (or observed) and have added stuff that needed to be added to...
Show me a piece of software that works as well as the sonos interface that uses the pi and I'll agree with you! ;)
Don't get me wrong, I've used Linux and embedded devices (I work on embedded systems) since the first release of Linux....all those years ago and as much as I love open source...
Sure. I totally get that.
Without knowing what the original posters idea of budget is then its hard to know what's a reasonable cost, but when I see raspberry pi mentioned I start seeing pence signs rather than pound signs!
I'll go back to my children's room now. ;)
I guess that's true for the play:3 and play:5, but the play:1 speakers look pretty darned good and we've got them in our lounge! it's nice to be able just to unplug them and move them into the garden as well!
I guess its down to personal taste, and if you're using the connect:amp then you could...
I'm confused!
First post sonos is way over budget, next you're talking about sonos connect:amp which is expensive on its own and requires you to add your own speakers?!
You also don't need everything to be connected to Ethernet, just one device in the system (you can buy a bridge specifically...
You buy a bridge and that plugs into your router and then your speaker connects wirelessly to it, only 1 "thing" in a sonos system needs an Ethernet connection, from then on they form their own wireless network.
However, they are realising an update (I think the current beta supports it) that...
Sonos? I cant say I've listened to radio on it, but I believe that the BBC radio stations are available on it. I can't check as we're in a cottage and won't be home until the end of the week. The play 1 is an awesome bit of kit for the price, can be used as an alarm as well.
Can't be used as a...
Have a flick through the gallery, you can see various widgets in action including the eBay one.

I'm with Tom. (Not literally), this is huge although I can see why some of you think it's meh.
I've been quite vocal about how poor I felt certain parts of iOS were compared to Android, bits which should be in it were conspicuously missing. They've had widgets for a couple of releases, but...
Double Edit:
Seems that giffgaff does indeed now have a carrier file.....that really is about the last hurdle.
I still think the below is valid, although it would seemingly not affect me now.
They do, via Apple, but the carriers should be policing it themselves on their own network.
You...
Now they just need to grow some balls and enable tethering full stop, regardless of whether carriers allow it.
It's up to the carriers to police it, not apple.
This is a solid update, I still think (barring the screen size) the 5S is the best hardware hands down....and that's nearly a year...
Digging this up....
I still maintain that the Bose soundlink mini is brilliant for a small speaker. However, the wife has managed to "put ours somewhere safe" and I'll be damned if I can find the bloody thing, so I decided to see what sonos was all about.
Have to say I'm impressed, I've been...
Really? Their ability to keep anything secret has completely disappeared though, prior to and including the first iPhone most things were purely speculation, now apple can't even do a product launch without somebody else having shown it off (often in full) all over the internet...
I did stuff like that on the PC as well. (Showing my age here!)
I remember showing friends smooth scrolling in text modes and making a lens in text mode as well!
Its almost worth seeing if any old PC drives power up!
Wasn't the first future crew demo in text mode? I mean it looked like a...
Its a monochrome display though....although I was able to get 4 shades of grey out of it by running at 4 times the refresh and modulating the pixels. I did that just to see if it would work!
Good old shade bobs . I've probably got some code kicking around somewhere that did those as well...
Ha..speaking of demo effects, I remembered about this that I did a few years back....
DK6ezHNWtVM
Its more impressive than in looks, that LCD has no controller (therefore no video ram), so I'm literally handling the scan refresh on the fly, clocking out every pixel of every frame fast enough...
I love sharkys updates, awesome stuff.
My brain is now mush, prototype system has gone out the door. Firmware can be updated via memory stick and the worrying settings for code protection worked...but more importantly I was able to wipe the processor afterwards....this is necessary if any...

These guys were legends back in the day, in particular the end scene of that demo was mind blowing for the time.
edit:
the source code for it is here....

I'll swap your boring meeting for my day! Rushing to get prototype hardware out the door today to a customer.
Just tried updating the firmware via memory stick only to find that the software wouldn't boot, eventually traced the fault down to my pc utility which generates the encrypted and...
