First ever attempt at shooting a car, so decided to start with my own 172.
Freshly washed, polished and c2v3'd . . . . and then it started to rain! Literally had two minutes before the skies opened up, so didn't get chance to try any different angles or locations. Maybe next time.

10 minutes with a machine polisher and some polishing compound they will be crystal clear. Or if you want to do it by hand a good few hours.
If you dont have access to a machine polisher, just get an attachment for the drill, but be careful with your speed.
