Which is better.. Torque or BHP

Unfotunately. I mean unfortunately I drive a 1.2, not unfortunately Im married!

Which is better.. Torque or BHP

We went on to talk about driveability and power not coming on till high RPMs. You were saying about the go-karts (I think) that you used to race that you would stall and flood with petrol of you let the revs drop too low? Anyway, the 1400 was originally an 8 valve Nova block (kept that way for...

I swear weve had this conversation before Ben, I typed a spec for you. yes it did cost alot, and know I didnt pay for it. I get to drive it, but alas I dont own it.

Getting bacto the original conversation, I can give an example that is easy to see. My old 1.6 8v Nova was running on Weber 40s with small chokes. It had stupid amounts of torque, but on the rollers, the Horse power was down around 140bhp. On the 1/4 mile, this would give really quick...

    Problem with Nova driver

My 1.6 GTE lump powered my car up Santa Pods strip in 15.1 seconds, and if I hadnt had bald tyres and spun up in 1st and 2nd it would definately have gone into the 14s. I think the quickest 1.6 litre Nova has done the 1/4 mile in 14.79secs, and the quickest Nova I know of is a sprint car with...

    advancing the ignition timing

Engine failure. Thats how bad it can be. If you advance your ignition too much, it will detonate on the upstroke, pushing aginst the piston too early, the resulting stress could cause piston distruction or a rod letting go. As Ben said, be careful.

    Problem with Nova driver

Youre just lowering yourselves to there standards. BTW, there are some respectable Nova owners out there. MC

    more VVT ponderings..

Fraid not, there has been a long period up until recently where other commitments (wife and house) have prevented such luxuries as magazines! Why do you think Ive got a 1.2!

    more VVT ponderings..

Once again, yep sorry just sounding out ideas, the exhaust cam is fixed in this case. I read in CCC some time ago that in modern lumps, the exhaust valves are left open a fraction longer to draw some of the exhaust mixture back in on the cylinder down stroke to recycle and therefore reduce...

    more VVT ponderings..

Didnt manufacturers increase cam overlap to recycle exhaust gasses and therefore reduce emmisions? To get that sort of power from a 2.0l you have to sacrafice a liitle on emmisions. maybe they are trying to bring it back within ranges when its being ragged?

    more VVT ponderings..

Sorry, read that post and its not too clear. Igot my cam/ignition timing confused too. The VVT is there obviously so you can have more advance at higher RPMs. If you run that much advance at idle youll not have a vary economical/smooth motor, so the assumption is that the cam timing is set...

    more VVT ponderings..

I know it sounds strange, and not sure if it would work, but from your stats is there any possibility that the VVT works the other way round. Instead of having the normal timing at idle, and advancing above a certain RPM, does run at standard timing and r****d below that RPM? Therefore...

    Car handling

Lift off oversteer is related to weight transfer, not drive train. When cornering hard and on the limit if you back off or break, the weight of the car will try to transfer to the front. The resulting lack of weight over the back wheels results in loss of grip and the back end letting go...

Ram Air for Clio 172 Mk2

Not made my mind up on this yet, but think about it a different way. The ultimate aim in tuning an inlet tract is to reduce restriction as much as possible. As the engine sucks in air it will cause a vacuum, and will have to work harder and harder to draw air in from around it. So this in...

    Making a 1.2 16v faster

I suppose thats another thing. If the 1400s and 1600s are the same block, there is a fair chance that the cams are interchangeable too. If so is there a difference in lift and duration? There must be someone on the inside that can find this stuff out. If I do start playing with it, the...
