you cant 'fail' for it being too low unless its unsafe. however you will get refused at alot of places as they cant get it on the ramps to get it tested.
some tosser hit my wing mirror and the glass came out and was just held on with the heating element wires. pushed the glass back in and it clipped home. but tbh cant remember in detail if there was a circlip.

easiest way to remove the outer plastic casing is to slide a blunt object (steal a knife out the kitchen lol) under the mirror cap going from the narrow end (by the baseplate) and they'll just pop off. removed loads and never broke a clip yet.

obviously depends on the nature of the scratch, and how deep it is but any decent detailer should be able to disguise it.

pc'd with menzerna intensive, followed up with menzerna final finish. sealed with duragloss 111, then coated the bonnet with supernatural but the difference was so marginal russ decided to leave it just coated in the 111 for him to add additional layers of sealant in the future. windows done...
looks like they're only suitable for 1.2-1.6
technically they will fit, but they will not be rated for the weight of the 172 engine so will sag like a b**ch on the front
