Surely if it was piston slap, the engine would run like a dog due to low compression......and burn tons of oil. Mine uses oil, but not excessively......

engine bay area, lower pulley area towards the front it sounds like. That sound file was taken with the bonnet closed, so its loud. It doesnt sound like the block itself, more like a pulley issue to me (Only when cold tho!)

Hi all, i have noticed on my 172 ph2 , if the temp outside is cold <0c (or around that) and i start the car from cold i get a really loud knocking and like a bag of loose bolts sound from the drivers side at the front of the car. Once the car warms up this sound goes, and it also doesnt...

Checked connectors aswell , cant see any issues. Check ABS rings cant see any cracks.........:(

Sounds like the common knackered engine mount issue to me. Its the pipe work banging on the heat shielding etc , this only happens when you boot it as the engine moves alot.

Nope no faults were erased just read, it was on clip yeh. The same readers as renault use in house apprently. Im gonna drop off the arch liners today and have a look i think at the connections.

Thanks for the replys lads. They showed as all "red" all 3 of them, i havent checked the connections. I have inspected the rings on the front off side and it looks fine. It had a leaky CV boot so i thought that was it, but after a good clean up etc etc it was still showing the fault and...

I have this same issue on load around the 2k mark, any gear. Did my plugs / coil pack, but it still is doing it.

Hi all, Firstly i had the fault read for the ABS light / service light on my 172 ph2 today and the 3 of my sensors are nuked it would seem. Now my ABS has been playing up for a while, for instance if i brake sometimes the ABS comes on juddering etc when it clearly shouldnt be (in the dry etc)...

Thats stupid money, check ur ABS rings are in decent condition........my 172 did similar it was the clip on the CV boot tho, it was covering the ring.
