injector maybe - I've been having the same problem with my 172 Cup & its booked in on Wednesday to check the injectors as everything else aprt from coil pack has been done.
sounds similar to the problems I've been having - have been advised it may an injector & its booked in on Wednesday to find out... Already changed plugs & HT leads & cleaned TDC sensor & throttle body.
meant to ask the garage to do a compression test when they were doing the HT leads but as the 1st set were faulty it all got a bit hot & bothered & I forgot. Don't think the exhaust is blowing, just a bit rattly. Not even considered a vaccum test on idle - how would you do that?
having a very simlar problem with my 172 Cup - have you tried the TDC sensor? Didn't work for me but I belive it has for other people - I'm still working on mine - coil pack next for me I think
OK just an update on where the 172 Cup has got to with its little mis-fire issue: Changed plugs (NGK OE), changed HT leads (Magnecor 8.5mm), cleaned throttle body, cleaned TDC sensor, checked emissions @ MOT station (oxygen 1.5 rather than 0.5 apparently) & re-set parameters according to...
the oil is probably coming from a leaking rocker cover gasket? one of my plugs was covered in oil when I had them changed to try & cure a mis-fire. have since changed the HT leads & still haven't cured mine - going to clean or replace the TDC sensor next then the coil pack if that doesn't work...
I have just noticed a heavy duty blue lead coming off my battery on my 172 Cup - it doesn't seem to attach to anything & terminates in a plastic block with some kind of connector inside so I'm wondering if it was used for some fancy ICE set up or similar by a previous owner? I'll try & get a pic...
will try to get the garage to clean or replace the TDC sensor this week, if that doesn't work then I'll get the injectors checked as per recommendations above and/or change the coil pack. Other than that the only other thing that has been suggested is a lamda sensor. will keep you informed &...
Shaun @ K-Tec has just suggested trying the TDC Sensor - more likely to be that than the Coil Pack apparently - certainly cheaper to clean that & squirt some WD40 on it anyway! I'll let you know how it goes...
same problem I've had with my 172 Cup - bought 8mm Blue Magnecor leads from K-Tec & they were faulty - wouldn't even fit properly so top marks to them they sent out some 8.5mm Red ones as they had no more 8mm in stock - bloody thing still mis-fires so coil pack next as plugs already done...
I've been having the same problem with my 172 Cup - my local garage diagnostics picked up nothing so they cleaned the throttle body, changed the plugs (NGK OE ones), fitted Magnecor HT leads & it still does it! Going to have to bite the bullet & replace the Coil Pack & hope that finally solves...
Re: Could Of Been Worse! Crash...
agreed, I had a car written off by a fork lift when it was parked up & I wasn't even there - still increased my premium (thankfully I had protected NCD) - took me a year to get the £250.00 excess back & 2+ yrs down the road they are STILL trying to recover the...
OK, how do you remove the injector plugs? Sorry to sound stupid but I'm not really that mechanically minded! Seems strange its only at low revs & doesn't seem to happen all the time though?
bought my 172 Cup a few months ago with c59k miles & supposedly a FSH. Since replaced: drivers seat cable, 3 x wiper blades, dog bone mount (upgrade to powerflex at same time), replaced plugs, replaced HT leads (upgrade to Magnecor at same time) - last 2 to try & cure a mis-fire, very happy to...
K-Tec recommended I replace my Pipercross IK with a PH1 airbox & one of their replacement filters - not sure if it will make a power difference but I for one am not a fan of the noise the bl**dy thing makes!!! Anybody got a Ph1 Airbox for sale as K-Tec didn't have any :dapprove:
Toyo T1-R's on the front, original Conti's on the rear - good enough on road & set competitive (ish!) times hillclimbing with it so they can't be too bad!
my local garage plugged it in & it didn't show up any fault codes, they recommended changing the plugs. When that didn't work I took advice as above on this thread & changed the HT leads, upgrading them to Magnecor at the same time. Spoke to K-Tec & they mentioned injectors. Really not sure if...
