Excellent, cheers. I have all lower working removed anyhow. Matrix, controls etc, more cosmetic really. Access is a plus. I'd be happy with engine and wheels alone!
Hi All, been hunting around car for more weight loss and am now looking at the dash thinking 'you're a bit chubby'
Advice really, I want to trim back wiring loom where possible (any unused plugs I'll strip wiring back to main loom). I'm thinking of just binning dash, support brace etc and...
5w 40 oil, engine sitting 3 months. Plugs being replaced at weekend. Will probably fit old injectors as were fine also. Hopefully will change things. Sounds 'valvey' to me so may be onto something with lifters. Injectors as mentioned earlier & plugs will do no harm changing anyway.
Hi all,
I have a Ph1 track only car. Blew engine at 161k and sourced a replacement with 83k. Fitted and started tonight.
Engine had been drained of oil completely before fitting and new oil etc in tonight.
I have a rattle when cold which gets lighter as she warms. I have video below, any...
For what it's worth mark I blanked thr steering box ports and put an incision in my rubber piped loop to release pressure build up.
Engine in and started tonight. Little rattle cold though, will post vid to forum to see what members think
1) Dump all associated PAS
2) Dump or sell all associated EPAS
3) Eat extra egg
4) Hammer on regardless!
5) Relax in knowledge you've less weight and less parts
Got the engine in Preston & shipped over with pallet way for £70. 83k on this one which was Ph2 so we'll see how she goes. Sitting ready on hoist but putting a new clutch in to be on the safe side. I'll drop it in next sat and if I have time get her wired up and running. No rush though, taking...
Have the engine out at moment getting replaced (blew at 160k) and will be putting new clutch in. Standard, nothing special. Any real advantages between Valeo and Luk? (popular options)
Meanwhile in Banbridge...
Half the mileage (previous blew at 160k)
Opportunity for more weight savings with the trusty angle grinder. Decided the doors look a bit fat so ripping out the butchers knife once again...
Autograss giving me ideas again...
Hopefully I'll be knocking about too. Engine bought after piston through block moment at the end.
Can't really complain though, small matter of 160000 miles on it!!!
Hopefully see you all there (if the wife doesn't give me heartache over time spent with cars, AGAIN)!!!
Cheers bud, more than I'm willing to pay though. I'm keeping this strictly as a budget car and a huge believer in power to weight, ie weight loss. Kills me having to spend but can be persuaded at times..
Cheers bud, much appreciated. How much did the flywheel cost? This is a budget motor but i'll stretch out what I can with machine shop wizardry and an angle grinder!!!
Woohoo, just bought a fresh Ph1 172 engine (belts and dephaser done), also has ARP rod studs.
Looks like the Clio will breathe a new lease of life from an engine that's a lot fresher (half the mileage) and shouldn't have lost as many ponies as the 160000 mile lump it is replacing...
Question 1...
So on a trackday at Kirkistown I blew the engine with 10 mins of final session to go.
It's a Ph1 172 and had 161k on it so not too bad all things considered.
Anyhow, now need an engine (if anyone's selling a sub 100k engine in good order)
Need to know if Ph1 & Ph2 are interchangeable...
No worries, had a bit of work done and car now idling at 2500. Removed top part of maniforl and discovered ring missing and a load of instant gasket badly in its place. Think this might resolve issue
I'll be back in March. I imagine by the time you're having the drivers meeting my hangover should be starting to kick in!
Know what I'd prefer to be doing though!
Thank christ for that. That's what I thought initially but funny how you listen a few more time and become more worries.
Truly horrible sound though, you can see the crank pulley wobble at idle and see it straighten with revs. In tomorrow morning!
