Year 2000, Ph1 172. After recently removing PAS & aircon this rattle has started at idle when cold. Crank pulley is wobbling and is being replaced and I'm unsure if this noise is coming from there or dephaser. Please watch 15 sec video and give me your thoughts.
Rattle disappears with revs and...
Yep this is opposite. Very rattly at idle only when cold, this is when pulley wobbles. Any revs or running temp and no rattle. Is still pulling strong trhough valve change.
Getting this done next week. To add to this there is now a metallic rattle at idle after startup with crank aux pulley wobble. Disappears with a few revs and pulley straightens up. Sound definitely coming from crank pulley area
Any thoughts?
Hi all, I have a Ph1 172. This is track only.
I have a wobble in my crank pulley at idle and have been sifting through posts to find if this is common occurrence. PAS and air con have been removed.
Could anyone shed some light on whether these pulleys are known to wobble or something more...
Should be. After the Christmas madness and annoying relatives we'll be well ready for a bit of sport.
Think I've officially ran out of things to do or grind. As I'll be missing February track day I can see boredom/frustration kicking in!
Seems to be the case. Still weight hunting...
Any updates on your motor Mark?
Seen a few bits up for sale there...
Also, any updates on Nutts Corner Sprints?
Cheers bud
Hi All,
I've a Ph1 172 I only use for track. I'm a weight loss freak and have been looking at the fuel tank.
I have an engineering mate who can fabricate one for me. Before I start sketching drawings, does anyone know the weight of the standard tank? (before I start pulling mine out)
Any other...
Did the Z4 route myself, kept it 6 months. I'll be going for another S2 for a summer trip to Gibraltar and keep the Clio strictly for track days. Had looked at MX5's before Clio, until I drove one, then past one, then another. Same story continues on track, glad I went Clio route, besides the...
Must've driven a very very bad one bud. Had quite a few motors in my time and this is by far my favourite.
Each to their own I guess.
Here's my second one... Built up from what was a shambles before... see 3rd pic
S2000 is one of the best cars ever. I've done road trips to Italy & Spain and caned it around Spa, Nurburgring & Catalunya. Traded for a BMW 650i with a viee to being sensible and am already back in the market for 3rd S2k. Incredible fun, just incredible
Couldn't aggree more bud. I did the oil cooler at an absolute steal using local hydraulic dealer i know well. Was in the forklift industry which gives you a real good handle on mechanical, electric, electronic, hydraulic solutions etc. Makes you think outside box i guess.
So much is easily...
I like them too but mines not a road car, doesn't even have any lights on the front. Gutted the headlights and left covers. Passenger cover is honeycomb drilled and air intake sits behind it. Could've bought expensive brandname ones but you know me by now...
Below show pictures of the 2 halves together, and fitted to car. Cost £3.95
Also is a Brand name version at a cost of £190.80. These come with ducting pipe and inlets (you have them on your car already if you remove fog lens), I'm sure the ducting certainly costs the extra £186!!!
You decide...
As regards engineering know how, this is the reason for post. So others can do likewise and save cash, simple procedure really. I'll get a few pics up when I get home. Cheers
No worries bud. Always looking for a non expensive solution. The markup companies put on cheap tat for the car enthusiast is unbelievable, considering the manufacturing costs. A lot of things can be easily done for a lot less, seat frames, oil coolers, windows etc. Must do a thread on savings...
Haven't tried that yet, or Barrys mods either. Must do.
When it comes to safety concerns things are done the right way, if there's a solution to something that can be manufactured in a more cost effective way then I'm all for it.
Oil cooler for example, you can buy a complete plug and play...
