ignoring the engine light issue for the time being, is your missus aware of how the clio runs when its cold i.e. really lumpy, i can see how someone would think something is wrong ( until its warmed up).
Given that you are overseas - i would get RAC on the job, as a bare minimum they will plug...
Not saying this is the cause but it will be a related factor..the weather, its got colder recently so you will potentially loose a few MPG due to the cooler temps.
Good luck with the fitting, despite what people say on here i needed spring compressors when changing my standard height springs (unless you want to risk a black eye).
Actually i only needed it on one side because the other side was snapped so was shorter, I dont understand why people advise...
As others have said (standard map) I get 30 seconds of the occasional pop when setting off - soon goes away though.
If you choose to have the pops and bangs map it only happens at higher revs to you can control it through the way you drive it.
I can't comment on an exact db ,
But I do know that they seem to get louder with age.. My system has no blows and it's louder now than when I got the car in December 12, quite a bit louder!

re the brake fluid:
If its not lowered then you will be able to do the rears without removing the wheels and dependant on your build may be able to do it on the deck.
Fronts obviously need the alloys off but for such a minor job its well worth attempting yourself, get yourself a 1...
Not sure on the correct viscosity for the 1.2 but the handbook / a search on here will tell you that.
Once you know the viscosity you need the choice is up to you, it's a minefield of personal preference but be sure to change it regularly - I think that's more important than using the most...
