The track car that never was...

Cheers, we stay in Aberlour now. About an hour to Inverness, 45 minutes to Aviemore and 40 minutes to the Lecht. Great roads all over!

The track car that never was...

The Cup clocked up the big 100k just as we were getting back to Inverness... The Cup was then used as my daily for commuting to work, we were in the throes of buying a new house in the sticks which eventually fell through, leaving us living in a rental the company I work for owned. The...

The track car that never was...

The Cup was then used as a commuter for a little while, by that time the belt that I’d had Renault (I know I know!) fit at the eye-watering cost of £800 was due to be replaced on age. I enjoy a bit of spanner fondling, I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering... how hard could it be… Turns out...

The track car that never was...

Well, start at the beginning I suppose… Back in 2011 I was working in Scotland on a long-term engineering project. As I had no outgoings, living on expenses and being just over half an hour from Knockhill a track car made perfect sense… Enter SY52 KUO, a Mondial Blue 172 Cup, collected in...

@Russ Rallye That's one fine shed! I'm jealous of both the Clio and the Shed!?

Are you not starting a project thread for the shed build? It's the kind of thjbg I'd read! Loving the Clio build too!

    172 Cup Brake Question

@McDriftin I completely agree, I've only ever done it just prior to taking it for an MOT then cut them off after. I think there are a few guys on here who run like this all the time though, personally I'd leave it as per factory spec, its just difficult to get an MOT with the factory spec!

    172 Cup Brake Question

The cups valve didn't have the link found on the standard 172 and 182. The cable ties are as @masekwm says generally used to get a CUP through an MOT as when the arm is held up maximum braking effort is given. If you cut the cable ties you'll have a "as it left the factory" set up but be warned...

172 Cup Rear Brakes - New parts and still playing up!

I was on my back under my cup that's been off the road sine 2012 yesterday... I got the compensator moving pretty freely after a few wiggles and plenty of fluid bleeding through so hopefully it will just be the usual "the brakes are meant to be like that, look at this VOSA document!"...

    MrBlonde's 172 cup

Looks great, what spacing are you using? I'm with you on the Skoda splitters, need to see them as a disposable item! My first genuine one was cracked when I bought the car, that lasted a few months until I hit a bit of debris on a dual carriageway, replaced it with a mint second hand one... 2...

Clio 172 cup - MOT failure rear brakes

I've ended up taking mine to a Renault garage before, passed fine after being failed elsewhere. I've contacted VOSA for guidance before got an auto email confirming they'd received my email then another a few weeks later saying they would look into it then silence! I think I was getting about...

    Exhaust heat shield bolts

Evening, Im needing to replace the handbrake cables on my cup, got as far as attempting to remove the centre section heat shield only to be confronted with what I assume used to be torx bolts/ screws. They are covered in rust and whoever last put them on has rounded all of them. What's my best...

Best wet tyres for track / race?

Rainsport 2's are great in the wet, I've not had them on the track though! I have them on my cup and also on my accord tourer, great tyres IMO, only heard good things about them on the track too!
