Another update. I managed to get it to an acceptable level to let the scrutineers take a look at the Brands, Tin Tops meeting last Monday.
Wired in the cutoff
Put the extinguisher in the boot so I can get to it more easily when I have a second seat in
Was getting short of time so bodged...
It is alot of work and I found even though I got a good finish that the paint was quite soft and easily chipped. A lot of places will struggle to fit the tyres without damaging the paint around the rims if they are like mine. If you know some one who'll take the time and care to not scratch them...
137k and orig engine, gearbox and clutch on my soon to be race car 172 cup. Although I can make the clutch slip now on sticky tyres and an all out standing start and the release bearing has been making alot of noise for about 30k...
I really should change the clutch...

lol
Nice to meet you today James. Good effort for your first race, especially from the starting position ;)
Hopefully see you guys on Monday.
Made good progress on mine today, planning to bring it for the scrutineers to have a look at. Happy to pitch in if you guys, James or Pete need a hand with anything.
My bolt is 100mm looking at my invoice. Strength wise I don't see it being any different to the std tow eye - it is basically a long bolt with a hoop on the end.
Yes it's just a long M16 bolt. I have two nuts on it - one to hold it in the chassis and another to keep the strap in the right place.
I'm thinking I'll try some stage rallying as well, that's why I have two extinguishers.
Little update.
Got the cage finished. Trimmed the dash down and got that all back together and wired up.
Wouldn't start though and it took me ages before I realised the fuel pump earths via the earth in the off side rear quarter and I hadn't connected that back up as I figured it was just for...

8 day forecasts are a waste of time though really ;)
Bad luck guys - hope it turns out to be a quick fix. I noticed there was a rebuilt engine in the for sale section for 300 quid with lightened flywheel and "blue printed" ports, it says they've had the casting marks removed etc. Has new belts and clutch too so might be worth a look if you need...
From the results I've seen posted on here. I think I've seen 2 results for 438s that look higher that typical and they're both in this thread.
The other 438s have been pretty typical for cams around 190.
I've certainly not seen 421s making 10bhp more that 428s on the std inlet, not even on...
I'm not seeing any significant difference in peak power on the std inlet between 428, 438, 421, C&B, shrick (I've not heard anyone get these fitted for years), GT.
If there was a significant difference between even 428 (the mildest) and 438 ktec would have done a direct comparison and shown the...

It's been completely pulled apart and put back together - bound to have some teething problems.
I'm sure it'll settle down - lucky it happened now and not in a weeks time.
You could take a look at the spark plugs - I expect they'll be blacker then normal if it is burning it. Exhaust exit will also be black.
A rebuild is expensive - cheaper to get a second hand engine, but you run the risk of another dog.
You could fit high comp pistons as part of a rebuild but...
With the non flared/old type sleeves you could press them in from either side to any position you wanted.
Looking at the flared ones they have to go in from the inside of the wishbone and the flare limits how how close they can get to the subframe.
I'd just fit the new ones and see how you get...

I can be on hand if you like. I'm planning on bringing my car up for the scrutineers to take a look ready for me to race at Silverstone.
The headtech one I tried felt less comfy and had visibly lower quality fabric than the Bell one I bought in the end, but it was a quarter of the price.
Not tried the others.
