Yes we change around one a month, thing is when people phone for a cambelt quote and you mention the dephaser pulley is recommended to be change and that adds £150+vat to the job they tend to think you are taking the piss and you end up losing the job. It's a no win situation most of the time...
Oxygen sensor is probably the most important sensor on the engine management system, tells the ecu what is coming out of the exhaust and the ecu adjusts furling accordingly.
So if it's faulty then car is never going to run correctly.
Change it see how you go, remember it's the upstream sensor...
Check for voltage at the starter motor solenoid , the main wire is 12 volts all the time and the small one is 12volts when ignition key is in start position only.

If you have had a full cambelt kit fitted in the last year or so you can get away with just a cambelt replacement approx £20-£25 for the belt, plus an accessory belt £20 and a pulley £135.
As your a trainee mechanic you can do it yourself and save a fortune.
Just check to make sure the tensioner...
Alternator failing I expect.
You say your having trouble starting it, so I expect the alternator is not charging the battery and its basically located behind the headlight.
