Excellent stuff, all the crucial bits (ie the handling/driving experience) sound spot on, which probably means a few hundred hours will be put into this. I'm going to be like a little kid waiting for Christmas next Friday at work waiting to go home!
None of the flaws sound remotely...
I is confuzzled, does this mean the patch will have a safety car?
Is the 'beat a developer' achievement like a virus as with most games, ie if somebody beats you can somebody else then beat them to get the achievement (even if they haven't actually raced you)
Yes it is, essentially Race Pro was GTR 2 remade for the XBOX with different championships/tracks. A proper Simbin effort so it is brilliant, best handling console driving game I've played by a long long way. Sadly it was made on a brutal budget and received virtually no post-launch support, so...
I've always wondered about this, ie how much 'hardcore sim' racers actually compare their gaming to the real world in terms of handling. We can only really take Ant Davidson's word for it, and if he is genuinely pleased with it there isn't much more 99.99999% of us can say on the matter...
Out of interest, what does 'in talks' mean regarding who writes the review? Do you just want to make sure that the person reviewing it has a clue about driving games? I naively assumed the game is sent out to reviewers and that's that.
Great to hear there will be a 2011 as well, will it be...
Manual has been leaked...http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-09-f1-2010-manual-appears-online
Quite an odd thing to end up out there a few weeks before release!
Seems to have gone quiet on the review front, looking forward to the likes of Eurogamer etc getting hold of it, presumably they all have review copies now?
More excited about this than about any other game for years, even tempted to have a day or two off in October to crash out and put some...
By default it uses some really strange speed calculations for UK conditions, for the first few weeks it was trying to take me really really weird ways to places (mainly using country roads to go everywhere). You can manually edit the average speed of each type of road, I found a post out on the...
Definitely FOM graphics, they appear on the raw world feed that they used to show in cinemas etc. F1 is pretty much the only thing I've ever seen that looks pretty much the same no matter what country you watch it in...that's why it looks slightly odd in the game. You can always save that for F1...
Route 66 sign is my favourite, really pleased with it as it was in a horrible cluttered spot to get a clean shot, that was pretty much the only angle I could get with just sign and sky.
Will definitely return to Vegas as there is still loads to see, but also it's a pretty good base to do some...
Loved SF, polar opposite to New York in the way everything is soooo laid back. Felt really safe there as well, went to the cinema a couple times and took a long walk back to the hotel late in the evening.
A tough choice between SF and Las Vegas though, I felt like our trip had really began...
Nikon 12-24 f4 and Sigma 50-150 2.8 for this trip. Took a Sigma 30mm 1.4 as well but only used it a couple of times (interior shots in Alcatraz, the only lens that could happily go sub ISO800)
Yosemite National Park
The view over Yosemite
Universal Studios Tour
Scene from War of the Worlds
Golden Gate Bridge
Alcatraz, extremely eerie place
The 'can't quite believe it until you see it' bendy road in San Francisco
You can find plenty more here...
Me and the other half have just returned from a nice big tour of California, Arizona and Nevada. Took 2000 pics and have barely scratched the surface yet, but picked out a few of my favourites below.
Nowhere near 'New York standard' pics, but as we go there every year I can afford to play...
Just caught up with the latest videos, looks incredible.
The game vs real life vid highlighted a massive difference though...why aren't the FOM graphics being used? Seems odd considering they are easy to read and instantly recognisable as F1.
The Green Clean (http://www.green-clean.at/en/camera/wet-dry/) system is brilliant, you need to take your time and do it properly, but it tidied up my D50 beautifully.
Does the D60 have ultra-sonic internal cleaning? I've been amazed by the system in my D90, had it nearly two years now and it's...
I've got these (the house shot above was taking with the ND8 Grad)...
P121L Gradual Grey G2 Light (NDx2)
P121M Gradual Grey G2 Medium (NDx4)
P121S Gradual Grey G2 Soft (NDx8)
I wasn't sure what to go with to be honest, but I figured soft would be better as I'm not near the coast so rarely...
I bought a whole load last week and it arrived today, wide and normal holder, 62, 67 and 77mm adaptors, circular polarizer and ND2, 4 and 8 grads. Happy to note that the wide holder works fine with my Nikon 12-24, some people report vignetting but I'm not getting any at all thankfully.
Not had...
Amazing game, favourite I've played this year. Trust me, you won't be getting the 'complete with less than 5 lives' in a hurry unless you learn every inch of it. The spider killed me 4 times :)
This month is good, what does the man who can afford anything he wants (including the Renault F1 team) drive?! Nice to read about a uber-rich guy who is clearly a petrolhead and doesn't just own Veyrons and Rollers.
I'm no aviation photography expert, but I struggled for half a day at Kemble a few years ago until I changed to Center Weighted Metering. That immediately brought the planes out of darkness and captured loads of detail.
I'm not sure if I would worry about a CP too much, as you're working...
The flags against driver names are quite annoying and seem pointless, especially the Webber one with his dark blue flag against a light sky. Presumably you can switch names/flags off?
On a completely unrelated note, do you guys still have the BTCC/TOCA license?
...and about twice the price iirc. Build quality aside (from what I've read the HSM has a more professional construction) I doubt many people would notice the difference day to day.
Completely different construction etc, aside from being the same focal length and speed they don't share any parts. The HSM one focuses internally (i.e. the lens doesn't physically change size when focusing), whilst the original Macro one will extend to focus.

The angle in 4, 5, 6 and 7 is superb, proper 'press pass' feel to them with the nice low perspective.
There are some quality angles still just about accessible with the new configuration, although I assume getting at them is pretty tough for F1 on any day but Friday. The Vale Straight is good...
