Ouch. This is the risk of getting work done from friends really. Where in the country are you based? Long story short, i'd be finding someone on here who knows these cars well and who fancies doing you a favour while earning a couple of pennies of beer money. Second hand engine. Refit box and...

    New member - looking at a 172...

I disagree. There are good examples available for not a lot of money. They're knocking on 15 years old now! TBH, on a sub £1500 car, i wouldn't even worry about the belts. Eff spending almost half the value of the car getting them done. Run it until it goes bang. buy a second hand engine for...

DC2 update. Still going strong, still kicking ass...

Wicked footwork there, but another in the camp of no need to double de-clutch! That's the beauty of synchro's! Also, would you not be more comfy with a dished steering wheel? Looks a bit of a stretch at on bigger bends?

£13k is such a bargain for one of those. EDIT: and looking about, at that price, i reckon £2-3k under what most are up for currently! Good buy!

    Jc5-029 part no location

Best way to identify is to do a visual check for the speedo sensor. If you have a speedo sensor in the box fitted, then you need to replace it with similar. Engines are fully interchangeable between gearboxes on those, so engine change should make no real difference. It's the car that defines...

Dodgy earth somewhere IMO. I would check where the battery negative bolts to the body. Make sure that connection is clean. Then check the wheel arch earth connection is clean.
