thanks all, clamp refitted, all fixed now and the car sounds so much better, much deeper noise and no whistle when accelerating! did it free of charge too, also wheels were 5mm out of tracking so now the car doesnt steer off to the right lol happy days

I've just bought a bg 182 with 73k fsh and it feels like new, clutch, gearbox and engine all feel very positive etc I was in the same boat as you but make sure you give higher mileage ones a look too! And enjoy, amazing car
