Look at Burpspeed and Toastfrenzy engine builds in the project section for proven recent track record. I'm re-building Tonys very shortly to keep up with the raised level of competition.
this is an mx5 thread, in an MX5, giving literally NO mercy, Standard spec ferodo pads were faultless all day on one of the hottest days of this year at Anglesey. This is what I based the factual recommendation on. Wow its hard fending off the trolls in here.
There's different reasons for and against changing pads. This for a start is an MX5 specific thread, which is a lot lighter and less powerful than a Clio.
I've done plenty of days on standard pads in Clios though, and I would again. Uprated stuff would have been better, and I could have not...
thats almost free, not sure why you'd quibble it and not just get them. I'm using standard Ferodo pads in mine though, and Anglesey, Llandow and Spa didn't manage to get any fade whatsoever. The car is so light I can't see much need for a harsher compound, just fresh new standards works brilliantly.
it's not "cheap" exhausts, it's quite simply anything with better flow than standard means that a lean spot becomes even more lean as the fuel requirement has increased but not been satisfied.
It is difficult to map out on any setup really, but it's possible, just takes a bit of effort and time
Epic car to drive. Brakes are diabolical though. No servo assistance so it's like pushing a concrete block.
Still got the Spider engine that was in my mk1 sat here waiting for something silly to crop up
cheap filters very often lack non return valves, so you get low oil pressure on cold startup until it fills the filter.
Genuine filter is £8, so it's frankly idiotic not to use one
