Unsure on these, effectively it's just a web browser? Yes you can do lots with them but everything is stored online. Is it of much use if you don't have internet connectivity?
Go to settings, applications, manage applications. Find news in the list of all apps, select force stop and clear data, then re set up the options in account and sync if they are missing.

Not noticed any battery drain but I don't bother with the status bar, just have the widget on the main screen.
I use battery widget from elvison. Shows the percentage in the top left. To replace the battery icon itself you need to flash an alternate one over recovery (requires to be rooted)
I've had a heavier month than normal this month and used 530 when I'm allowed 500. Got charged 2:40ish extra which I can cope with. Normal use for widgets and occasional web browsing is around 300.
Never have any issues with orange myself :S Out of the two voda have been better from experience at work, for internet at least anyway. All depends on your area.

Stock rom won't work, but people have hacked them to, have a look on xda developers. You'll need to be rooted.
Just the design of the card, it has one physical output but the splitter that comes with it allows two. Wouldn't work on a bog standard output I don't think.
You can try using a gfx card in tandem with the one built in, but it depends on the PC, some automatically disable the built in one...
