Taking my rear beam off for refurb and repaint however I'm a little stumped by the bolts that hold the beam mounts onto the chassis, they're the one that has the head of the bolts covered by some metal thingy and are located under the rear passenger bench seat, obviously after 12 years the bolt...
Afternoon.
I started dismantling the rear beam of my 172 cup this afternoon to refurb it. some parts are very corroded and are maybe beyond repair particularly around the brake compensator valve area, but im not sure what these bits that I may need are called. so does anyone have any exploded...
It failed on efficency. 13% I believe the pass is 15%. The tester has noted that he saw some staining on one of the calipers so could be leaking, also I had left the car standing for about a month just before Xmas when I came the drive it one of the brakes had got stuck on slightly, it did...
Evening all
So my 172 failed on the parking brake (amongst other things) the other day. So I need to have a look at it. Unfortunately I have no idea how the parking brake works on these cars. Is the parking brake integrated into the the visable rear discs and calipers or is there a separate...
Thanks for that bud. I'll try freeing it up/see if it moves when the brake pedal is pressed. If it doesn't then I'll have to bite the bullet and get a replacement. I think whilst I'm at it I'll strip the rest of the rear brake components see what else is up
OK so I showed the tester the download he said that he would be OK with that. However he has said that the arm should still move and I need to try and free it up? Should it move and to what effect would this have on the braking?
My car has also failed on parking brake efficency. I have no idea...
One final point on this came this part seize on a cup? From what I have read it was preset at the factory therefore it would always appear seized. Quite annoyed right now geezer at the garage was quoting £350+ to change it, and when I rang him back questioning this tester opinion he got right...
Hi all just had my 172 cup fail it's mot. Multiple reasons. But the most expensive part seems to be a failure of the rear compesator valve. They say that it's missing a spring? Does it have spring on the 172? They also say it's seized?
Unfortunately I binned the old pads with the shims still on. Bit of a 'd'oh' moment with hindsight! I've seen replacement shims for sale on eBay and I've emailed Wolverhampton Renault so thankfully I can get them. Thanks for the info on the ds2500s it certainly put getting them into perspective.
I also read today that the cup originally had slightly larger pads. And the ds2500 pads come in two different sizes to mirror this. The larger set would definitely not need shims as they are that much bigger. Anyone else seen this?
Thanks for all the replies guys I've sussed it now there's 1-2mm of play between the pads and calliper mount so I need to shim it. I'm assuming that Renault shims will do the job. So it should just be a quick message to Renault Wolverhampton.
the pads were brembo I may try another brand in the future I quite fancid trying the ds2500. But yeah I only does it when, for example I've reversed off my drive braked then gone forward and braked again after that the brakes are fine
Hi all
my 172 cup has developed a problem I think from the front brakes but could be wrong. What happens is when going from reverse to forwards there is a clonk and I can't work out what it is. One idea I have had is its from the brake pads I have just replaced the discs and pads I believe I...
Hi
I need to replace the rear bumper screws on my 172, the ones the are located just behind the tailgate. I've been searching ebay and google all afternoon but I can't find the correct large head torx screws anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get them from?
So I've managed to find this after several google searches
Re: k-tec recessed exhaust fitted
no no, after seing yours and your videos i took the plunge and went for it hehe
Do you just line up the exhaust with the bumper and hen cut it or is there a diagram?
no their is instructions and...
That was my original plan but I can't get the exhaust sitting right and the hangers done up without getting it into its final position, I obviously can't get it into its final position until I cut the bumper. I did have the idea of removing the rear bumper finish fitting the exhaust then offer...
Hi all
i need some help, I purchased a ktec recessed exhaust a couple of months ago and have finally got round to fitting it this past week. Only problem is I either wasn't sent or have mislaid the instructions of where to make the cut in the rear bumper. It not something I want to guesstimate...
Evening all
I've been fitting my ktec recessed exhaust tonight all gone rather well so far. However I've got a slight blow coming from the joint between the cat and new exhaust mount, the part with the metal gasket. My question is will this seal in time/use or do I need to take the joint apart...
I'll give the jubilee clip method a go then but also try to salvage the old retaining clip, I don't fancy changing the whole boot if it isn't necessary. I had to change the calipers as the ones on there were corroded to s**t, the pistons just wouldn't move back enough to get them over the new...
Hi all, my first post. I was changing my disc's and pad's today turned into a bit of a mare and the calipers and mounts had to be swapped as well but I digress. When changing one side I noticed that the ring on the cv boot has come off and emptied its grease pretty much everywhere. assuming I...
