A bearing in the driveshaft (gearbox end) fell to bits and when I went to remove the remnants from the gearbox shaft it wouldn't budge. I've tried heat on it, penetrating oil, shocking it with a mallet, hasn't budged. I'm guessing the teeth are mangled together, hoping not, but can't figure out...

There's a good tip on the cv joint guide on here if you're doing it in situ. Clamp the driveshaft with mole grips and lodge them in the hole in the middle of the wishbone to stop it moving when you knock the joint off the end.

+1 Done mine myself, just need a soldering iron and some patience and it's a few pound to fix, just follow the guide. No way labour should be that much especially when they are just swapping the part out.

Well I popped the offside shaft off and opened up the inner CV joint. All the grease was grey/silver with swarf everywhere, here are the findings: Gouges and scoring And the actual cause.

Yep used the correct NGK's.

Double checked all the bolts after I fitted it the second time round, definitely all tight.
