All the French cars have the same type of main beam switch. Vauxhalls all seem to have the type that you push for main beam and pull towards you for dip beam.
The rear pads tend to stick to the discs if left with the handbrake on during a spell of wet weather. I've had that happen several times. Also the linkage gets stiff at the back where the cable comes out of the inner sleeve.
It's a similar set up on the Renault Trafic/Primastar/ Vivaro except a...
Get the alignment checked and the castor and camber. Pulling under braking might be a sticking caliper. Where did you get the tracking checked? Have you hit any potholes?
Try replacing the battery. Once the cold weather kicks in it will show any weakness in the battery and if its been on the car a few years its likely to let you down sooner than later.
It's possible to fit a Stainless back box I think but not sure if the centre section will need to be changed to make it fit. CES sell a mild steel box for the 172. They sound really good and are a direct replacement for the standard discreet one.
They're fun to drive but nowhere near as quick as a 172. I drove one at Oulton Park 2 years ago on the Renaultsport day. I had a bog standard Twingo for a week in Lanzarote last year and thoroughly enjoyed thrashing it round the roads there.
Mine revs to 7300 before the limiter cuts in. That's after remap at RS Tuning. 8000 seems very high rev limit. Unless the engine is fully lightened and balanced I wouldn't be pushing any engine as high as 8000.
I'm 55. I've had my 172 just over 4 years now. I've done 18 trackdays in it as well as plenty of long distance trips. My three daughters are all in their 20's now and they all like the car and so does my wife. It makes me smile every time I drive it. I'll be keeping it for as long as I possibly can.
I got stopped in my taxi a couple of years ago in North Wales for driving with front fog lights on. I got out to ask him what his problem was and took it on the chin about driving with fog lights on. But while talking he spotted my LED front side light bulbs. He said they were illegal and that...
I've got a cat back Scorpion stainless system on my car. It's not too loud and improves the performance. Well worth the money and will last a lot longer than a mild steel Renault system that costs almost the same. I went through two centre sections in three years and a back box so it made sense...
Have you tried changing the plug leads for some uprated ones and changing the coil pack? It may be the leads are breaking down and tracking across to cause misfire. If that's all it is then its a reasonably affordable fix.
When I bought my 172 it had a cone filter stuck on the end of the elbow. It sat behind the radiator sucking in hot air so it wasn't gaining anything from the cone filter. If the engine was stopped after running long distances on the motorway for instance and then started off again fairly soon...
The pads probably need a smear of copper grease on the edges and the calipers may need cleaning to get rid of the screeching. Or it could be the type of pad needs changing. I've got Ferodo DS2500 pads all round and they never screech.
My Federals are fine. They have been on the car since August and show no signs of cracking or splitting. I've had problems with Toyo T1-R's cracking more than once. They didnt wear particularly well either last time I had them on the car.
I had to replace the front tyres for last MOT which were...
Forget the decat but go for a decent cat back stainless system. I've got a Scorpion system on mine and it improved the torque and is more free flowing than the original exhaust without being too loud.
Probably a good idea to talk to the guys at Burpspeed. They race a Ph1 172 which is pretty rapid.
You will need to take your ARDS test as well. All the MSV owned tracks run race schools and tests.
If you are taking a satnav turn off the speed camera warning. It's illegal to use it in France and speed camera devices are definitely illegal. If caught with one in the car even if its not being used the police can destroy them and fine you as well
Can recommend Ferodo DS2500 pads all round and Brembo high carbon front discs. Demon Tweeks are reasonably good for prices. The front anti rattle shims will need to be removed though as the Ferodo pads are a bit bigger than standard ones.
It's probably crank sensor. Check the condition of the connector as well. It could be corroded. If it needs replacing you can get a repair kit from Renault.
